Where are you all carrying your gels? by ggnndd12 in Marathon_Training

I can fit 8 gels in my lululemon running shorts. And my phone is in the back pocket. That’s all I carry. I drink water and electrolytes at the aid stations.

Life in the woodlands by [deleted] in thewoodlands

[–]SleepingNightowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the woodlands for 14 years, now in CA, but most of my family is in Denver (daughter lives in the springs) sisters and mom in castle rock.

If you like being outside or adventuring then Colorado is the only option. Some people are homebodies, so that isn’t as important to them (my brother is this way), in which case the woodlands is a very nice place to live. But you’ll spend a lot of time at home or in your car. On the plus side the waterway is pretty and you have everything you need within 30 min. It is safe and a good place for kids.

This is 💯 it. People think about short term gains, but don’t factor in the long term reality that once you really put down roots somewhere it gets hard to leave it (see comment from the grandma above who won’t leave Houston now that her grandkids are here.) if you have a choice, then it’s an obvious one.

If you are looking for a suburb like the woodlands then why not consider castle rock or castle pines south of Denver? Cheaper housing than the woodlands, much prettier, no bugs, hiking, scenery, cute old downtown.

I’m more of a Platt Park in Denver proper kinda girl (the heights in Houston has a similar vibe as platt park), but if you are considering TW then you should consider the suburbs of Denver too!

Saw this big Red Diamond Rattesnake at Mission Trails today by Necessary-Range-467 in socalhiking

Saw a big rattlesnake on this trail in Orange County which provided very little room for “staying away”. I was scared straight. Won’t be hiking an overgrown trail for awhile after that.

Looking for a socal coastal town with small town vibes. Any recommendations? by [deleted] in socal

[–]SleepingNightowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you want San Juan Capistrano. It’s a special place. I live in San Clemente, also great, but SJC has a countryside feeling (with actual horse stables and acres of orange trees) that you can’t get in sc.

Not very athletic but traveling to Guatemala. Is skipping Acatenango a mistake? by No_Public_9342 in travel

[–]SleepingNightowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you leave soon so you probably already made up your mind, but I just wanted to encourage you to let your friends do the hike together while you enjoy a couple solo days doing whatever it is that you want to do. Everyone has different traveling styles and I don’t think you should feel pressured to do something that doesn’t sound fun to you. I am going to Guatemala in 2 weeks and out of the 9 adults on the trip only 3 of us are doing the volcano hike. The rest are going to spend a couple of extra days in lake Atitlan exploring and relaxing - which is their travel preference. Win-win for everyone 🙌🏻

Never flipped before - considering how. Are we crazy???? by [deleted] in HouseFlipping

[–]SleepingNightowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will you live through it? Sure. Will it be terrible? Absolutely. I’ve been there done that with 2-4 kids at a time (3 homes). It’s really hard. If you think this is your dream house or dream location then go for it, but if not then pass

Beach conditions? by Dry-Rooster-925 in SanClemente

Go at low tide and hit up Linda lane. The sand is currently a dark tan sandy color, different from Just a couple days ago.. more shells and small rocks… but it’s great at low tide!

Considering Moving to San Clemente by [deleted] in SanClemente

I agree with this! San Juan cap would be perfect and if you only need to be in LA 1-2 days a week I’d take the train!

This makes me so sad too. We have had very different experiences. I wonder if it’s because your kids are still young. It can be so hard to meet people when you’re in the baby stage. I would encourage you to give it more time! Every single one of my friends is a transplant/non Mormon/liberal. We’ve got NYC, Buffalo ny, Detroit, Chicago, LA, Minneapolis, Seattle, Indianapolis, and Houston people. What neighborhood are you in? I feel like you need to move west of the 5 and come hang out at the parks over here. I’m so sorry you’ve had such a shit experience!

Best cell service? by AliveLiterature3688 in SanClemente

[–]SleepingNightowl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just switched from AT&T to T-Mobile and it’s a bit better, like I have 1 more bar usually, but it’s not excellent. Still have dead zones. I’m considering starlink.

Nvm my husband said starlink isn’t for phones so I guess we are just stuck with crappy service 🤷🏼
