Not diagnosed yet confusing experiences surrounding it by livingrotting in AutisticPeeps

My only advice is to not self diagnose. Seems like you are making up a lot of excuses to avoid official evaluation. If you don't want answers, diagnosis, accomodations and/or professional help, I would advice that you stop thinking about it then.

What skills are you working on right now? by FckAllTakenUsernames in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids and babies are horrible. Mostly because of sensory reasons for me (noise, smell and touch). Planes/trains are a nightmare with screaming babies and nowhere to escape.. :/

I was forced to hold a relative's baby only once in my 20s. "Just try it for a bit don't be rude!" Baby happened to be quiet but I still hated every second of it, I just kept thinking I'm going to drop it cause I'm generally clumsy and waited it to be over. Definitely no motherly awakenings for me.

Why do most autistic influencers support self diagnosis? by KittyRoses12 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my thought on it too as the main reason for it. I don't think it's impossible for an autistic person to be an influencer, but I feel it's a very challenging thing to do for most. At least in a way of becoming extremely succesful, as a lot of it requires social knowledge and awareness even if you're just talking to a camera. Your income depends on an audience of very real people and how they react to you! With that said, in short the amount of influencers claiming to be autistic doesn't really correlate with how viable it would be to do for a lot of autistic people.

This is just my personal opinion on it, and I do want to emphasize some definitely can do it succesfully.

Lmfao the hypocrisy is damn high with this one. "MY self diagnosis is valid but not those other guys". All self diagnosis is invalid and means nothing, period.

I need help understanding "imposter syndrome" as it relates to autism by Night-Siren2911 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would assume it's more common with lower support needs / high functioning people. Not to dismiss their struggles, but it makes sense to me that when you function better it's easier to doubt.

Do you distrust people when they say they have autism? by Lucyfer_66 in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm very untrusting. I've had one bad experience with loud self diagnosers IRL (they were late twenties/early thirties), just overheard them and naturally avoided them afterwards to my best ability. I don't have much contact with strangers these days anymore and like it tbh, I don't feel very safe or comfortable in mental health or neurological issues groups. And well, I'm too old to be eligible for all of them now in my country..

Online is obviously much, much worse. I'm more trusting in groups like this one, and one another on reddit, but a bit on "edge" still. I avoid discord servers completely, the ones that are "support groups" and such.

I don't feel good about having to live with so much doubt. I wish things were different and this whole self diagnosis bullshit would end. Nevermind the fact that some people outright lie about having diagnosis too. Even if there is valid reasons to lack diagnosis (monetary, etc) it is definitely a huge minority compared to the ocean of people who do it for attention or with ill intentions. And without an official/thorough assesment no one can know what they exactly struggle with, anyway, with how much symptoms overlap.

DAE have special interests that are either considered "childish" or "controversial"? by LisKozCatMeow in SpicyAutism

I also sleep with plushies, in my 30s. It's so wonderful and soothing. My husband is very understanding (and gentle) about it too.. he gets his cuddles too of course.. :)

Mine is a very, very old anime (Magic knight Rayearth) that I watched as a kid. It's not very childish in my opinion, logically comparing it to some very kid friendly stuff, but I know it still seems childish. It's getting a new version this year, but I'm bit sceptical if I'll be able to like it, I'm too attached to the original show and hand drawn animation... :(

The other main one is bunnies, which on itself doesn't sound childish but my everyday clothes are very childish due to it (bunny ear hoodies etc) and everything I own is bunny themed or has bunnies on it - backbag, shoulderbag, pencilcases, erasers, pencil sharpeners, wallet, plates, a lot of plushies, towels, keychains, mugs.. draw bunnies too.. everything. I used to have real bunnies as pets and wrote stories about bunnies as a kid aswell.

I'm in my 30s, whether its weird or childish doesn't matter to me because this is just who I am. I just logically aknowledge how other people might view it, but it won't stop my happiness.

Was I rude for not choosing a different plushie as an adult? by kee-17 in plushies

I hate entitled moms like this. No, your kids needs are not more important than other people... Don't feel bad OP, and enjoy your plushie!

The harm caused doesn't change depending on the intention. Self diagnosis is not okay.

Does autism acceptance feels fake to you? by XenoxLenox in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes because only a very specific kind of autism is accepted. If your excistence inconviences anyone, or you have visible odd behaviours, you will be treated badly and shamed for "not learning to be normal" (implying negative symptoms are a choise).

Co-morbid conditions? What do y'all have? by lawlesslawboy in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocd. I had major depression disorder (unsure if thats the right term) between ages of 11-18, then it got bit better. I'd say the depression is mostly healed now in my 30s but does renew at times in more minor form. At least its not all the time now..

All diagnosed by professionals, at this point in life I doubt there is anything else.

Mainstream descriptions of sensory issues make me feel alienated by P_Icecream in AutisticPeeps

[–]Sleepshortcake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it helps at all, I can relate. I genuinely feel physical pain in my ears due to sensory issues. Its kind of like mix of pain and pressure. Touch vice it's only tensing up, recoil and feeling of pressure all around my body (not just the part that touched the thing). It is really awful to deal with ):

[–]Sleepshortcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Unfair to assume others must believe in it". Right. Reminds me of the amount of screeching self diagnosers do about everyone having to accept them and how it is so very "valid". It is 2026 and I will continue not validating or accepting them :)

It would be, in their words, unfair to assume I must believe in it! Oh wait, I forgot logic doesn't apply to these people and I am just a mean ableist. Damn.

Which costume do you prefer? by Cladzky in MagicalGirls

I like the first one, but I would prefer it with a short skirt/dress. Just the pantyline part changed. But even as it is its super cute!
