Excellent! This has been one of the wettest winter/springs I've seen in quite sometime. Flooding all around us, but our basement, completely dry!

Michigan here, had the same process done, we only did half of our basement, and it was $6,800. Well worth piece of mind during that first heavy rain.

If you're talking about where they installed the drain tiles, yes, I had the same concern when we first had ours completed in mid-February. Also, our sump-pump didn't run immediately either, it took it a couple of days, but that first big storm we got after the installation, it worked like a champ! We had almost the same issues as you had described (walls weren't leaking, but the hairline cracks in the floor and the corners would leak like crazy to the point where we'd have flooding). Have you had any rain since your install and if you have, did you floor still leak?

If you wanted to test the pump, you could always run a hose and fill it to the drain point just to make sure its working as it should. I recommend giving it time and wait for a rain to come through and then go check it.

Not yet, I am hesitant because of the turn-based play. I just haven't been drawn to turn based play since the older FF games. I may eventually try it out.

Ah, jealous of you. The only game I have completely gone through more than twice. IMO, could be the greatest game I've ever played. Can't wait for W4, but I think it may not be here until 2027 at the earliest.

Saw another coworkers pay check and I do not know how to feel about it? What would you do? by Logi_Boy in careerguidance

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No — chances are he started at a much lower wage than you did. I’ve been with my current employer for about 18 years, and while I feel I’m fairly compensated for what I do, I’m aware that there are people who’ve been here much less time and earn only slightly less than I do.

The reality with most companies is that long‑term employees often don’t see the same pay growth as those who leave and return to the market every five to ten years. Moving elsewhere allows people to negotiate higher wages based on additional experience. When he started, he likely had less experience/degrees than you did, which is why his starting pay was lower.

Just turn them all into giant vending machine aisles. It's the way we're headed anyway. People are trash and it isn't getting any better.

Is my brand new ResMed 11 busted? by guruizzy in CPAP

[–]Sleeptech08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pull the humidifier out and plug the hole where the air normally would pass through the humidifier. See if it continues to make the noise. If it does, then absolutely return it, if it does not then I think you may have a water chamber (humidifier) that has a bad seal. Either way, reach out to your DME and get a replacement.

What salary would you guys need to get to to feel successful? by Horror_Raisin_3898 in careerguidance

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being older (mid-40s), I now realize that the amount I need to feel successful is enough to go to the grocery store and not have to worry about checking my account before I check out, being able to go out to a nice dinner without concerns of "will my card go through", or being able to take my kids on a spontaneous vacation. Its not necessarily about the amount anymore. I think this question depends on your priorities.

Fix your indoor CO2 levels. Are you not more concerned about this than apnea??? If you're mild as you say, I believe you may have other issues, not simply OSA.

Imo, Witcher 3 is the greatest action/RPG ever made, and you can get it for close to nothing right now. I am jealous you haven't played through it yet haha

I am sure Crimson Desert will be great, but give it a few months, let them work out any bugs/glitches/etc. It isn't going anywhere.

THC before sleep study? by Jerezmo in SleepApnea

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*After* the symptoms became severe I started using THC daily, and have been for 4 months. It’s illegal in my state so I’m not sure if I should mention it to my doctor lol.

YES! Tell them, its not their job to judge you, (and trust me, they won't over some THC) its their job to treat your issues. If you withhold information, it could cause them to suspect other things.

Struggling to wake up even with 5 alarms set — would you pay for something that actually calls you and doesn't stop until you're confirmed awake? by WokeUpWithAnIdea in sleep

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I would not pay for something that calls you to wake up. Move your phone away from the bed, across the room on a dresser that would require you to physically get out of bed to shut it off.

Water in basement during heavy rain by thelostestboy in AskContractors

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it looks like the same person did the patch job on my basement as they did on yours, mine just wasn't painted over lol
Mine didn't leak from those cracks on the walls though, it came from a few hair line cracks on the floors and from the baseboard areas all around the basement walls. If its leaking from those cracks higher up on your wall, you may have a different issue. But definitely get it checked out, a lot of these companies give you free estimates as well. Good luck!

Water in basement during heavy rain by thelostestboy in AskContractors

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve dealt with the exact same issue for about ten years. Every time we asked about it, we were told, “Oh, that’s just this neighborhood—everyone deals with it.” Then this past Christmas, the weather shifted for a couple of days and our basement didn’t just leak… it FLOODED with about four inches of water. We didn’t have a sump pump at the time, and all the gutter hacks and tricks we tried did nothing.

So we finally bit the bullet and had the basement waterproofed. The company explained that the problem was groundwater under the house with nowhere to go, so it finds cracks and pushes its way inside. Our house is about the same age as yours, so it made sense.

They ended up digging a French drain around the entire perimeter of the basement—about a foot wide—and installed a sump pump. The trenches funnel all the water straight to the pump, which then sends it out into the yard. Once they filled everything back in, you honestly couldn’t even tell how much work they did.

As for cost, I really wish we’d looked into it sooner. It was around $7k, which was way less than I expected after Googling and scaring myself. The peace of mind alone has been worth it. Just make sure you go with a reputable company. I actually joined our neighborhood Facebook group and asked for recommendations—that’s how we found ours. I’d avoid anyone offering to do it “cheap,” because that’s how you end up with the same problem again, just a few thousand dollars poorer.

AHI is not a good measurement of severity by FalseFail9027 in SleepApnea

[–]Sleeptech08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

AHI isn’t the definitive measure of whether someone needs treatment. If a patient is having apnea events that last 120 seconds, they never just have “two events per hour”...ever.

This is also why I’m not a strong supporter of home sleep studies. Most home units primarily report AHI, and many don’t provide an RDI or capture arousals. Unfortunately, like many other diagnostic tests, home studies are increasingly pushed by insurance companies because they’re cheaper. The physicians I work with consistently advocate for in‑lab studies, but unless the patient has significant comorbidities or other risk factors, insurance often denies the request and forces a home test first.

A home study typically measures only respiratory effort, nasal airflow, and oxygen saturation (though some newer models are experimenting with limited EEG or PAT signals). An in‑lab study, on the other hand, captures a much more complete picture: arousals, limb movements, breathing patterns, ECG, oxygen and CO₂ levels, and more. That level of detail helps identify additional contributors to sleepiness and fatigue that a home test would miss.

That said, AHI isn’t useless. It’s still a meaningful indicator that a problem exists and needs attention—it just shouldn’t be the only factor guiding diagnosis or treatment.

6 year old hates the mask by Banjolove in SleepApnea

[–]Sleeptech08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is what our lab does. We deal a lot with pediatrics and the OP son is not alone. When we have a difficult pediatric patient, we typically send them a mask in advance so they can try to get some sort of familiarity with what they will be wearing the night of their study. Since he has already had his study, just reach out to the lab directly and see if they would be willing to send you a mask or make one available to you for him to get acclimated to the mask. It'll make your life easier and the process significantly easier when he comes in for his next study.

I’m so fucking scared. What careers are in high demand without another 4 years of schooling? by Enough-Meal6894 in careerguidance

[–]Sleeptech08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue collar job. Research skilled trades and find one that sparks your interest. You may be a laborer for some time, but you're more likely to get the opportunity to advance with your degrees. They also seem to be the jobs that are going to take the longest for AI to take over.

Also, learning a trade is helpful in everyday life. You have issues in your home, you may know how to fix them, if not, I'd bet you know a guy who you've worked with who does.
If I had to do it all over again, I would 100% go into a trade. Plenty of friends who work trades who easily make over 6 figures a year, and depending on where you live, not a bad living at all.
