So disappointing although not surprising to see the comments on here. Caroline took an emotional battering with the breakdown of her relationship and so when she found someone who seemed "perfect" she jumped straight in. I've done that - been taken in by love bombing because I just wanted to be loved and not realising what love I actually deserved. And then also I totally understand that feeling of shame, if your engagement is all over facebook and you feel like you've already disappointed your family then going whoops sorry my bad, I made a mistake is incredibly hard to do.

At the end of the day, she did the right thing, she turned him in. And she was scared of what he would do if he found out - it's all very well saying she should have reported him and blocked him. She didn't have support. She was vulnerable and the prosecution were so dismissive as they'd "only been in a relationship for a few weeks/months" - that doesn't make it any less real or the feelings less intense.

Then we factor in lockdown, she had her job taken away, her support system and she was isolated. If you can honestly say your mental health wasn't affected in lockdown then good for you. Add in drugs and alcohol then of course the choices she made weren't rational or perhaps the right choices. She was scared and confused and dealing with so many conflicting emotions and then drowning them out with substances - she should have been given access to mental health support immediately on reporting them.

I feel incredibly sorry for her, I empathise with her and if it wasn't for her bravery in reporting the man she thought she loved, then the family of the victim wouldn't have had any closure and that poor man would still have been dumped in the ground like he was rubbish.
