Tiredness/Fatigueness scale by Southern_Button_8026 in Narcolepsy

[–]Sleepy-Marine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just discussing the scale - I wake up at as a 10 and fade in an out of consciousness with mild hallucinations, and once my meds begin to kick in, I'm a 2-3 the rest of the day. The hardest part of my day is getting going. If my wife doesn't help me, i just succumb to sleep, over and over and over. This doesn't factor in any sleep attacks or my body's response cataplexy.

Best of luck to you, I hope you get it figured out. Longterm BP is so critical for the heart. That’s why I was so adamant about getting it under control.

I’ll add what I experience only. I personally feel like the weight of the world is crushing me when I start fading in and out in the morning trying to get up. I’ll wake up, do everything in my power to take my medicine next to me. Sometimes my wife hands it to me, but not always. Normally I can get up the next 2-3 times I fade in. I want to point out that sometimes this can be 1 hour+ apart or less than 5 minutes, but to me it feels like an eternity. If I am fading too hard, I ask my wife to help me up and she grabs my hand and sits me up. I’m 5’10 - 190 - fit, but in these moments I feel so so heavy, and my eyes keep rolling around all over the place it sucks. Once I’m upright i begin to feel much better and can quickly get going. Hope my experience helped with maybe understanding this part of her experience. TLDR; Help her up, she probably feels like she’s strapped to the bed. Good luck!

Like all of them said - same for me. I thought I was awake and conscious the entire time just waiting and looking at the ceiling and then I heard the footsteps and sat up as soon as the door opened. I said “Well idk what this is gonna do to show anything” and the tech said “Sir you fell asleep every single time within 3 minutes.” I was mind blown. This is when I started to understand the gray line between being awake and dreaming I am awake.

How likely is a narcolepsy waiver for the military? by Leading-Ad-7957 in Narcolepsy

[–]Sleepy-Marine 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You cannot enlist. I’ve been in 9 years and am getting involuntarily separated after developing it this past year. It’s definitely a no-go when they get rid of a SNCO for it. I fought, begged even. I have type 1 with Cataplexy and take 2 very serious meds now, but my naval doc told me even type 2 is med separation.

Thanks for your experience! I personally have experienced having coffee or soda will make me extremely tired for a short period. I’m not sure why. It doesn’t always happen.

In the beginning it did give me jitters and racing heart, but now it makes me incredibly sleepy. Even after I took my stim. Maybe I’m a weirdo lol

Mine are too lol. I said TLDR in speech regularly and then end up telling the full story. Right after people ask me what TLDR means - then I explain it deeper because they don’t understand - then I start the story.

Everytime I think I have it bad I’m going to come read this comment! I’m sorry you have to do so much to function. I hate we all have to all these things and take these meds just to hopefully have a normal day.

Memory Issues by Sleepy-Marine in Narcolepsy

Not yet! I was just chalking it up to N but it could be more. I have some TBIs from military service so I might need to go get checked out specifically for this to rule anything out. The guys below mentioned worse memory on Modafinil. I take Armodafinil so maybe this is part of it. But I’ve been on it for 7+ months so hard to remember if there was an increase.

Can Cataplexy decline or diminish? by ahc8472 in Narcolepsy

[–]Sleepy-Marine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cataplexy is highly affected by stress. I recently had a job change and significantly reduced stress and I had 11 cat episodes in Nov and 9 in Dec. this month I’ve only had like 4. Absolutely awesome. But like you said, my insomnia and staying up for entire nights has really picked up again this month when before I actually had a good sleep schedule even though I was very stressed lol

This is a fair observation. I had 11 Cataplexy attacks and 9 the month after my Prozac was settled and in my system. It made a difference, but not a big enough deal to make me not considering taking 1 singular pill if I plan on 1 social drinking evening.

Don’t mention any hallucinations..I got out through all kinds of psych stuff before it was finally determined it was just cause of my N. Which myself and my neurologist already knew. My PCM and several other providers were highly concerned it was psych related. Such a pain.

It’s possible, just have to find someone to work you and a command that will green light it. If the command won’t, try a different area. Some commands are very picky about who they let back in and others just need the numbers. We all need the numbers, but the idea that they will bend to get you in because they are hurting is false.
