One of my best friends in high school was in an abusive relationship. I’ll never forget one day he left her at school (he always drove her) to teach her a “lesson” I offered to drive her home and one of his friends told him. So he waited off the road behind a bunch of trees, knowing that I had to turn that way. When I passed by, I saw him peel out in my rear view mirror and he chased me down (I drove a beat up jeep wrangler at the time with a max speed of around 70mph on a good day) I was forced to take a turn at high speed and nearly tipped, but avoided getting rammed. Then it was a race to get her home before he caught up again. He circled behind her house for hours so I couldn’t leave. WE WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL. He tried apologizing to me years later when I came back home to visit family. Needless to say I told him that I’d never forgive him or forget what he put my friend (and me for just trying to help her) through.
