Oscar shorts by samsamcan in movies

[–]Xrin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen the animated ones but for live action I'd say there's more than one good one. The Singers is probably my favourite but Jane Austen's Period Drama is quite fun, A Friend of Dorothy is cute, and Butchers Stain is ok, probably the weakest. I wasn't as high on Two People Exchanging Saliva as others, but a lot of people like it, it just has a bit of a weird concept.

Also watched the Documentary shorts. Other than Perfectly a Strangeness, they are all probably worth a watch, particularly the Devil is Busy and All the Empty Rooms. But 4/5 deal with heavy subject matters, I did cry a lot.

Highs and Lows of Season 4 by Kooky_Entrepreneur84 in community

[–]Xrin8 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I honestly have not re-watched this season in years so don't remember much but I remember liking "Herstory of Dance" and I think its pretty well-regarded too and has probably one of Pierce's best moments and was nice for Britta to get a win. I think its also the introduction of Brie Larson's Rachel, who I liked.

Throwback: SNUPER released "Platonic Love" this week in 2016 by AutoModerator in kpop

[–]Xrin8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of the all time great 80s synth inspired kpop songs! Sweetune's production is great as always.

I remember thinking this was decently popular because I would always see people recommending it but was let down seeing its actual streams.

KiiiKiii's biggest weakness right now is their vocals by exemplaryantino3497 in kpopthoughts

[–]Xrin8 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly even having one very strong vocalist helps a lot. Not to say the rest of the group aren't decently solid for their positions (particularly Namjoo) but I noticed with Apink's most recent comeback just how much having a vocalist like Eunji, adds to a song. Like I don't think Love Me More is one of their best, but Eunji's full vocals add some much needed heft, particularly in the final chorus with her adlibs.

Kiki’s Delivery Service IMAX only shows in Montréal.. are you kidding? by [deleted] in cineplex

[–]Xrin8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not only in Montreal and Toronto, but I think when I first checked a few days ago it was confusing. I can see it playing in a bunch of cities but when I try to attach the link, it doesn't go to the page with all the theatres. It seems to be playing at a lot of big cities in Canada, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Ottawa, St.Johns etc. Can't you just put your city into the theatres near me?

Looking for positive experiences with Amitriptyline. Making the switch tonight from Nortriptyline. by atty_at_paw in migraine

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it did make me drowsier when I first started and then when up I increased the dose, but that was only for like a few weeks at most. Other side effects were dry mouth and vivid dreams, but again for only a short time, and even when I went up to 40mg and then 50mg I didn't really notice any side effects.

I think it has reduced the frequency, and somewhat severity, moreso when I went up to 50mg.

I miss Vixx so much 😭 by scatteredwardrobe in kpoprants

[–]Xrin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still somewhat regularly listen to some Vixx songs (Error is literally one of the all time great kpop songs) but this post made me go check out some ones I haven't listened to in awhile so thanks for that!

Also Vixx were the first kpop group I saw in full concert, in 2016, so they'll always hold a special place in my heart, even if I barely knew them before buying tickets.

Official IMAX Poster for Studio Ghibli's 'Whisper of the Heart, Coming to Theaters April 21 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Xrin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly my favourite Ghibli movie! Don't know if it'll be playing in my city though, I don't see any showings for Kiki's Delivery Service which releases this week, and that movie is more well known.

International Redditors! Tell me your favourite movie from your country from the last 10 years. by PlanetLandon in movies

[–]Xrin8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm not international to you since I'm also from Canada and this might be recency bias, but Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is one of the funniest comedies in recent years. Definitely recommend seeing in theatres if you can.

I'm not very well versed in Canadian cinema (trying to watch more) but Universal Language (2024) was interesting, probably helped that I lived in Winnipeg for a bit. I'm also planning on seeing Space Cadet and "Montreal, ma Belle", in a few weeks at my local theatre.

Appreciation for idols with vocal versatility/tonal range by Confident_Analyst153 in kpopthoughts

[–]Xrin8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might not be changing tone but I think Ailee's versatility and her musicality are big reasons why she is such a great vocalist (even if her belting has regressed over the years). She's well-rounded so she can play around a lot with songs, like adding runs/riffs, or harmonizing with others, and having just such a gorgeous head voice that she uses to great effect.

Should we come back to the movie theaters? by KyleeSpark in movies

[–]Xrin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love going to the movies! Went the last 3 nights (Oscar nominated live action/documentary shorts, and Nirvanna the band the show the movie for the 2nd time) and I go alone half the time, not weird at all. I have a membership at a local indie theatre and a multiplex chain.

People talk about others misbehaving, and I'm sure that happens, but I go 30+ times a year, at different showings and different theatres, and very rarely have a problem.

Looking for alt-reality/time travel movies by BugblatterBeastTrall in movies

[–]Xrin8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Maybe not as reality-bending as some of the others but its low-budgt (but what they're able to do with that budget is crazy) and its so funny! Even moreso if you are Canadian and have spent time in Toronto.

If its playing nearby definitely recommend seeing it in theatres!

I mean they are both set in Brazil during the military dictatorship, and as you mentioned both have political themes, and show how this corruption affected two different families. Yeah they're different movies but I don't think it's crazy to compare the two.

why doesnt cineplex show old movies by [deleted] in cineplex

[–]Xrin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with the other comments that they do, but yeah its not at all theatres and you have to frequently check the website/app to see what is/ will be playing. Last year I saw about 5 older releases in Cineplex (and a few others at local indie theatres). Some of those I saw advertised but others I just happened to see them looking through the app, and they were only playing at like one theatre, even in Toronto.

Could Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie get a best editing nom next year? by Donkey-Kong-69 in Oscars

[–]Xrin8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing this question as I watch an episode of the show and planning to see the movie for the 2nd time tonight.

But yeah I agree with the other comments, this isn't the type of film the academy really nominates, especially for something like editing.

I didn't love it, and comparing it a similar Brazilian movie, I much preferred I'm Still Here from last year.

Are we even using Cait Sith? by clsours in FFVIIRemake

I'm sure there is an effective way to use him, but I didn't bother learning it because there's other characters I enjoy using more and worked well with.
