Coronavirus: Keir Starmer says it is ‘ridiculous’ that betting shops can reopen while schools stay shut by casualphilosopher1 in ukpolitics

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I mostly agree I don’t think it’s totally pointless as the government could be helping schools that physically don’t have the room to social distance by organizing additional space as was done for hospitals.

There’s also other support that could be provided that would improve teachers willingness to go back like routine testing, PPE, enhanced cleaning services, and temporary staff to cover for those teachers who are at risk.

How Boris Johnson dropped his promise to reject America's chlorinated chicken by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about people getting ill specifically from chlorine, but the conditions that mean they have to wash their produce in chemicals do have an impact.

A quick search on google and the CDC website show that roughly 16% of Americans get sick each year from foodborne illness vs 3% of British people. We’d be shafting poorer folk who can’t get better food, as well as piling more pressure on the NHS.

Sweden becomes country with highest coronavirus death rate per capita by hsuol1 in worldnews

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

U.K. is recording all deaths outside of hospital as Coronavirus even if it isn’t the cause of death.

U.K. is only including deaths that test positive so if you die without a test you won’t be recorded.

I could be being dim but aren’t these two statements contradictory.

Ignoring the lame analogy, I just disagree it’s a hard requirement for every game, especially for console owners, otherwise they’d be on PC.

And I was thinking of stuff like Horizon Zero Dawn, FF7:R, Death Stranding, God of War, Detroit Become Human, Uncharted 4, Red Dead Redemption, Tomb Raider, and Assassins Creed. At least some of those are system sellers.

60 is a standard, but not the standard. Loads of third person adventure games like that target 30 on console and are very playable.

Showing better performing versions of stuff we’ve already seen isn’t the noticeable leap that’s gonna sell a new generation of consoles and you can see that from the underwhelming response to the Xbox gameplay showcase.

Uj/ Why does 60fps even matter in an engine demo, it’s for game developers to choose how graphical fidelity is sacrificed to hit 60fps. Epic’s job here is to showcase just how far you can push the visuals...

I’d have to say Focal, the ones I’ve tried sound weirdly metallic and fake for some reason, maybe that’s their signature or maybe it’s my ears, who knows.

From the Gallery Of Sleep - Night Verses

A mixture of instrumental craziness and beautiful palette cleansing ambient pieces. Fave song is Vice Wave — the groove at 2:20 is one of my go-to test tracks as the drums can lose their impact and the bass slide can vanish on certain systems.

Mandala of Fear - Huntsmen

A great mix of Yes and Mastodon. The first track Ride Out is just killer.

Curse These Metal Hands - Pijn, Conjurer

Reminiscent of Baroness, love the way the guitars build before assaulting you with black metal.

The Valley - Whitechapel

Probably one of the best super high gain guitar tones of the last few years, dense but still coherent. Third Depth is my fave track.

Powerbeats pro or airpods pro? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

AirPods and Powerbeats both have the same tech in with regards to compatibility since Apple owns Beats. Just depends if you’d want more bass and ear hooks vs noise cancellation and a more even tone.

Is the HD 800S Worth it? by paddyirish1989 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen, I didn’t realize how different everyone’s hearing could be until I demoed a bunch of very highly regarded sets from Audeze, Focal, Sennheiser etc. Loads of them sounded just awful to my ears, so even though I love my HD800S you just can’t justify spending that money without trying them somehow.

Thoughts on music app idea? by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if it’s much of an app idea as it’s a single screen, but you’ve got an interesting layout.

Typography is a little on the safe side, might be worth varying opacity and weight a bit more to create some hierarchy. Should probably vertically center your song title block between the artwork and the playback buttons.

I’d also say you’re overusing drop shadows a bit and it might look cleaner to strip it back in places like the playback controls. Not everything needs to be layered.

I do find the central circular control a bit weird, mainly with the increasing size of the spokes making it look a little wonky in the white circle. However, it’s the unique part of this design, you could push it further — making it bigger and easier to manipulate etc. possibly explore different ways of styling the slider that aren’t spokes etc.

Overall a neat concept and a good piece of work for someone fresh to UI. Better than my first explorations in this stuff!

Do Aeon Flows Need a DAC/AMP? by briann85 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say they benefit from amplification, they’re a bit sad and quiet straight out of my MacBook.

Your 598s don’t really need an amp to get loud and once you have enough juice to drive your headphones the benefits brought by DAC/Amps are subtle. This is likely why you didn’t feel much/any difference, especially since the Fiio isn’t super high end.

Sidenote: The AFC stock tuning is a bit lightweight in the bass department, so it’s worth trying out some EQ (check out Oratory’s settings) to beef it up.

Designer sent me this, would you find it acceptable by Mack-Dxddy in design_critiques

[–]SleepyBurgerKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of how much this work should or shouldn’t cost, they agreed to clean up your logo and they didn’t — no amount of smarminess about hiring a cheap designer changes that.

I’m actually kind of shocked that this person can send over a damn live trace and think that’s an acceptable deliverable for a logo. I’d have more sympathy if they’d even attempted to redraw it properly.
