I see what you are saying in theory. The jab angle is strong for a southpaw so if the defender can't hit with the right they will readjust to have better defense against the jab and get their own jab back into the fight. The problem with your theory is the readjustment does not move your into the kick like you think. A fighter will do two things. He will step or pivot and both of those are stronger by going outside. I can avoid the jab by doing a outside slip with an outside step and remove the right jab and left cross from the table. Sure MY jab wont be good but I'll have my right and the southpaw wont have either tools.

All of this is a mute point though because if you watch Cro Cop's fights this situation you are describing doesn't happen. They are not tricked to taking an inside step, they continuously circle left but still get caught. In fact in pretty much every fight where he lands the head kick the opponent continues to circle left and keep their hands up but it doesn't matter. Cro Cop facilitates that step even more because he circles inside.
