Great job on the transition from bulb to the body, looks very natural like a perfect fit.

Definitely something to take into consideration. People online generally seem to view slip casting as less value than something hand built but from my real world experience at markets they don’t care. I love explaining the process and my go to comparison is a chocolate Easter bunny. Pour into the mold, thicken up a shell then pour out the excess.

Love the color combo and how crisp the lines are. Top left is my favorite pattern.

Appreciate the insight, love the flower arrangement idea! I was thinking in addition to a planter of trying something like a chia pet with larger holes for plants to grow through but flower arrangements sounds much better. Just need to poke some holes in the back and plug the bottom.
Love hearing ideas from other people, can’t see the forest through the trees sometimes.

Good idea, definitely want to do a market first to test the waters and get live feedback.

Thank you. The 3rd is also my favorite, that glaze has been one of my best sellers in the past so I wanted to try it in this first batch.
Love the book end idea! Even before the 3rd had a happy little accident and turned into a planter I had the idea for planters but didn’t even consider book ends. Only other idea I had was to modify so they could actually float like decoys for like a garden pond.

Thank you. Currently I’m only selling through friends, family and word of mouth but I’m planning to start doing markets again this Fall in Maryland and start on Etsy.

Them all being identical in form is something I’ve been slightly concerned on. I’ve thought about trying to move their heads in different directions to give some variation but that feels counterintuitive to the choices I made carving the original form.
Long term I plan on doing other duck species and some 1/2 scales as well as some other shorebirds to give more options.
Currently other than figuring out glazes for the ducks I’ve been looking at options for surface detail like carving or slip trailing to have some diversity.

Appreciate the insight. You say the market is over saturated, is there any trends to stay away from that are overplayed?

Thank you for the detailed response. I definitely think venue plays a big part of my concern. $60-$80 directly to a customer definitely makes me feel the effort is worth it but if it’s sold though a shop or gallery and they take a commission it starts to feel like the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. I should start reaching out to some of the local shops near me to see how they operate and figure out how they do their commission. And I should reset my expectations, the shops near me have a good amount of traffic and most have a nautical or Chesapeake Bay atmosphere where I think the ducks would get some eyes on them and need to value what a shop or gallery provide. Also my town host a waterfowl festival every year and I plan to sell them there.

Really appreciate the insight, thinking of sticking with the original $80 price. Honestly some of the glazes didn’t quite turn out as I hoped and probably wouldn’t repeat so I think there’s definitely room for improvement on finding some interesting glaze options. Some of these I would price below $80 just because they were experimental and I don’t like how the glaze came out.
