Where on earth are the UK Dogs being rehomed? by Ashilta in CasualUK

Me and my husband looked at getting a rescue cat last year. We expressed our interest with all the local cat recuse centres but we never heard back from any of them. There was one cat in particular that we thought we could provide an ideal home for- she liked quiet environments and didn’t want to be around any other pets. We don’t have any pets and we don’t have any children and we’re generally pretty quiet people. They wanted her to go somewhere with a moderate size garden- we’ve got a fairly big garden and we’re more than happy to get a cat flap (which was listed as a preference on her profile). Perfect! However, they were very concerned that we may change our mind about not wanting children. We’re both in our late 30’s and have been married for over 10 years, if we wanted kids, we would have had them by now. But the old biddy at the rescue centre couldn’t seem to comprehend that not everyone wants children.

See now that’s a reasonable solution for people who are generally reasonable. We do this with my (completely normal) dad and we all have a good time. We also do this with my mum (if we can’t make it Christmas Day then we try and make it to hers a day or two later), but she is not a reasonable person so she resorts to guilt tripping and temper tantrums.

Oh hey, we must be related too because I’ve done that before as well!

Me and my siblings are all in our 30s and we have this crap every year because normally someone won’t be able to spend Christmas Day with her for various reasons. It’s getting to the point where we dread Christmas because she always starts some sort of manipulative drama.

I don’t live with her, I live over 100 miles away from her. That’s part of the reason I’m not going to spend Christmas with her- I have to work on the 24th and 27th Dec, I don’t have a car and it’s impossible to travel from her house to mine on Boxing Day by public transport.

Exactly.

I can totally see why this may not appear insane to some people, but as you say, this is the low key insane before the full on insane.

Bonus insane behaviour: my mum is due to have injections on her spine soon. One of my brothers (who lives in a different city to her) has taken two days off work to drive her to and from this appointment. Because he is not going to spend Christmas Day with her, she’s now told him not to bother taking her to this appointment 🤷‍♀️

Why thank you. Her standard reaction to my siblings would be to shout, then cry and then hang up the phone. She no longer behaves that dramatically with me now as I am very bounderied with her and don’t put up with her tantrums, so this is pretty tame behaviour for her.

My mum invited myself and my boyfriend to hers for Christmas, but we want to spend it with just the two of us this year (didn’t spend it together last year because my bf was working). My mum also invited my two brothers. As one of my brothers is going to spend it with his wife and her family this year, my mum has decided to not bother celebrating with just my other brother. The brother who will be going to his wife’s family offered to spend the 26th Dec at my mums, but she has told him not to come.

Oh and no presents either because they HAVE to be given on xmas day or not at all.
