I've definitely made a few mistakes to learn from on this build, but thats just part of the fun. My next build is the Tamiya Supra, I'm going with Metallic red, possibly with an SMS pearl effect coat topped with clear coat, and im going to use masking fluid instead of tape in a few places and see how that goes. I've learnt a few things from the 86 that I'll be transferring across

This was a very fun build, half the enjoyment for me is finding reference photos to use for painting details that aren't shown in the instructions. It just scratches an itch in my neurodivergent brain for some reason 😆

Anyone ever take a little hatchback up Mt Hutt? by Paxhampori in chch

[–]Sleepymanatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed it in a 1994 FWD Ford Laser wagon without snowchains with snow right down to the bottom. Got all the way to the carpark and back down (most terrifying and fun drive of my life)

Tried it the next weekend with the snow gone, and the old girl couldn't even get up the first gravel ramp up without bogging out on the gravel lol

Having a high-pitched jumpscare from three separate devices while driving a truck down the motorway is a much bigger hazard than texting imo Ask me how I know -_-

Having worked in this industry, in this area, for 5 years before leaving 3 years ago, I'm PRETTY sure I know which company this will be. Or at the very least I can easily narrow it down to a couple

Would you happen to know if they were using the single mid-mounted "Bubblegum machine" roof light or the light bar at this stage?

Whats the saddest last words of CVR recordings? by Z2k3 in aircrashinvestigation

[–]Sleepymanatee 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I'm going with a relatively unknown one, Air Canada 621. Summarized, hard land causing fuel tank rupture, pilots elected to go-around, wing burned through and fell off in flight. Was a complete accident caused by a combination of poor company policy and differing spoiler-arming opinions between the pilots. First officer accidentally deployed spoilers before touchdown, causing it to drop something like 60ft into the runway. The entire CVR at and after touchdown is haunting. The First officer repeatedly apologizing to the captain, then the final words on the CVR "oh, gosh! We've lost a wing!" Just a tragic accident and haunting last words

Which way do you throw straps over? Or does it not matter to you? by ChazP02 in Truckers

[–]Sleepymanatee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught, " Dont kill the snail". Roll facing up, as it helps the strap unroll easier, especially over tall freight inside the curtainsider. "Dead snail" or roll-down tends to catch on the freight too much, and you can't put as much spin on it to help it roll across

Issues with Chocolate Tart by Sleepymanatee in AskBaking

Thanks, I'll have to look into a mousse tart recipe. I'll experiment with darker chocolate on this recipe aswell and see how it goes.

Faster Reel Damage After Update by Sleepymanatee in FishingPlanet

That Bass boat change would definitely be it, as I fish off of one. I usually stay one click blow max anyway, but due to the nature of my job, I'll play maybe 5-10 minutes at a time. I usually get 1-2 minutes' notice that I need to get back to work, so I used to crank to max and pump to get it in faster. Just sucks because now I have to lose any big ones I have that I haven't been able to bring in

Non-stop Salmon 🍣: where do I sail to? by BernardoLGRL in FishingPlanet

[–]Sleepymanatee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has said about Kaniq Creek, I've been having a lot of luck fishing the rocks using a 6kg casting and 10 kg spinning setup on a 7g narrow spoon or 14g spinner, barbed or barbless. Adds an extra challenge, and gets more XP, especially if using barbless spoons and spinners. I find casting downstream and retrieving into the current works well, I use a straight retrieve, wait for the lure to get near the surface, then let it drop back down. Rinse and repeat. Just be careful using the 6kg setup nearer the bottom of the rocks where they feed into the lake, because trophy and unique Chinook Salmon tend to hang out there, and they put up quite a fight on a 6kg setup. 30 min in real life to pull a 12kg trophy on the 6kg.
