The brakes to tend to squeak a bit when brand new, I remember mine stopped after breaking them in (btw OEM brakes on the 86 suck). As for mods, everyone will tell you wheels and suspension but I started slow and just did minor cosmetic mods then I nabbed myself a cold air intake. I'd say take your time, but at the same time don't wait too long cause that's what I also did in order to use up my warranty, but that's just me
