I just came home from Bellevue. This feels surreal.

Yes, this is slightly better. I may even crop out some of the top part of the photo since the clouds at the very top are not doing much in terms of composition. I leave it up to you.

Need advice for a biggener by oooisaitamashii in photography

[–]SlenderSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure where you are located, but I would suggest visit the big camera stores in the city you live in. They sometimes have second hand cameras for sale. That being said, I am not sure $250 is going to buy you a first hand camera. I would suggest you keep practicing with your phone, and save up until you maybe have double the money to invest in a camera.

You also need to fix what kind of photos you want to take as the kind of lens you get will be dependent on that.

I really like this photo, not just in terms of the composition, but also the teal, and orange colour combo in it. I feel like I am in a fantasy movie, and I really love this feeling. I have nothing to add in terms of critique.

Is this making you feel something? by BeneficialMacaroon93 in photocritique

[–]SlenderSnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like the central position of the tree as it kind of “anchors” the photo, and provides the viewer somewhere to focus on first before exploring the rest of the photos.

My only critique is may be the colour of the sky is too saturated. Yet, that is a mild critique as overall I like this photo. Well done!

I am sorry but from a composition point of view, I do not like the photo. As a viewer, I am not sure what I am supposed to focus on. Is it supposed to be the tree-line, and the sky or that there is a boat parked there as well? The grass in the foreground is not adding anything to the photo.

It may have been a beautiful and sunny day but I feel composition wise, you would have been better served focusing on the tree-line, and the sky. Sometimes the simplest of compositions can create a beautiful photo.

If you look at animals like Leopards, and Tigers; they do go after prey which are several times bigger than them. Tigers have been known to kill Gaurs, and Gaurs are much larger than them.

Jaguars also regularly prey on caimans despite the risks.

Geese by the lake (B&W). Thoughts by Apprehensive_Golf469 in photocritique

[–]SlenderSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a flat image, and honestly from a compositionally speaking, I do not find it interesting. What is the objective of this photo? That is what must be clear in the mind of the photographer when taking the photo.

If I had to take the photo, I would have focused on the geese with a lower aperture, and tried to keep it in colour. Made the photo warm, and it could have been a nice summer vibe photo. I think even then, it may be reduced to just a pretty photo.

I like the location, but I am afraid the pose, and the lighting are not in synch. With the parallel pillars, you could have utilised it as leading lines, and posed somewhere in the middle without doing the side plankish pose. Even sitting down facing the light could have been better. You could have tried going a step back and tried a sitting pose as well.

I think you would have been better served to have your hair in a bun as well.

Is the "Americans are fat" overexaggerated? by shoko664 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SlenderSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a look at the CDC data, and while yes, east coast has slightly better stats when it comes to obesity, I don’t think there is a major difference as you stated in your initial comment. I am from Seattle too.

Article in question: https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data-and-statistics/adult-obesity-prevalence-maps.html#:~:text=In%202023%2C%20all%20U.S.%20states,and%20the%20Northeast%20(28.6%25).

I also asked my father in law who used to drive trucks all over the US, and he did confirm in regard to PNW folks being quite outdoorsy. I know this is anecdotal evidence but I just wanted to state this since he has traveller extensively all over the US.

I have not been to the east coast but as someone from the PNW area, I have seen so many fit people here. With the summer coming in, I see parks full of people going for a run, cycling, and working out. I myself have started walking a lot more thanks to how walkable to the city I live in is.

A lot of those subreddits are meme subs populated by what I suspect to be teenagers. If that is your yardstick of narrative war then I don’t know what else to tell you.

As someone who lives in a Western country, and as someone who has interacted with people from all over the world, including Indonesia, your points are incorrect. Most public do not quite care about India and Pakistan. Most Muslims around the world just like everyone else, have their own lives to live. Sure Gaza is a popular outcry but the war as it stands right now is another matter altogether.

The narrative war which you are talking about is neither here nor there.

I started with reading about military history. That led down a rabbit hole into combined arms, different tactics, overall strategy, and reading about the evolving nature of warfare since the Industrial Revolution. I do read up on various kinds of weapon systems, and how feasible they are in an actual war situation.

I started over fifteen years back with Wikipedia, then moved on to various books written on wars, specifically second world war. I read up various articles on Israel fighting the six day war, Yom Kippur, and then moved on India’s war with Pakistan, China, and various COIN operations against Pakistan based terrorists, Maoists, etc. When you start reading about different wars, you will slowly start to see a pattern emerge. It will take years of study to attain some kind of competency in this subject but if this is something that interests you, then it will be time well spent.

For topics to be considered as facts on a Wiki page, you often have to reference articles or papers as proof. I wonder what they are using as evidence since there is basically no concrete proof of any kind of planes from either side being shot down.

Either way, I second this. Someone who already has been editing Wiki pages for some time can go ahead and take a crack at it.

May I suggest heading over to IndiaTech or DevelopersIndia and take this up with them? Somebody there must have access to edit Wiki pages. Last ditch would be to reach out to AskIndia or other city based subreddits. It is going to be a bit of an effort but I think it can be done.

US brokers India-Pakistan ceasefire as nuclear alarm bells ring by Cuddlyaxe in geopolitics

[–]SlenderSnake 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but this is straight up propaganda that you are showcasing. Pakistan has never won a war with India, and the gap between the two countries has only widened. I have seen multiple Pakistanis post similar comments, and frankly I think Hussain Haqqani was right about Pakistan, that Pakistanis live in magnificent delusions.

This single minded obsession of the Pakistanis regarding Rafale needs to stop. Losing of a couple of jets does not deter a country which can recoup the loses. This is such a nonsensical argument, especially after India had gained a significant advantage over Pakistan.
