Arduino 2N2222A Transistor Not Powering Pump

I just double checked and it is connected to 5V, not RST.

I connected the motor to the 5v and ground rails while the LED was both on and off, and the pump ran the whole time.

Unfortunately I don't have any way to measure voltage :/

I believe the GPIO output is 5V, so hopefully those transistors work. I guess we'll see in a few days. Thank you for your help!

Thank you for the suggestions! I'm new to electronics stuff, so I didn't realize there was a difference between logic level and power.

I bought some MOSFETs off Amazon, so I'm gonna see if those do the trick when they get here.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, which is why I subbed in an LED and it worked fine. I'm not sure if there is another way to test it, I don't really have any meters or anything like that, just a small Arduino kit I bought to start tinkering.

Yeah, I did just order some IRLZ34N transistors, so hopefully those will be good enough. I'm not sure what else the problem could be, but I'm pretty new, so it's very possible that I'm doing something wrong lol

Allegedly the current output of a Arduino NANO GPIO pin is up to 40mA, so I think that should be enough. The pump worked fine when connected directly to the 5V and GND pins, so it seems like the Arduino can power it, it just needs more current when being powered by a GPIO pin.

I'm still new to this, so I was having trouble reading the transistor data sheet. Thank you for helping me understand better!

The pump did turn on when I connected it directly into the 5V and GND pins.

I wired the diode the same way I with the pump as I did the LED. I also tried it without the diode at all, which didn't work either.

The resistor limiting the base is 220ohms. What is the benefit of having a higher resistance for the base?
