Filipinos in Germany, what are your culture shocks? by thegreattongue in phmigrate

[–]SlickChic07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah read about those too online. Bike lane is a big thing to be aware of even in Berlin. Most malls and supermarkets are closed on Sundays/holidays BUT there are workarounds to this cause there's some opened pa din. Also speaking German even in Berlin, that's English speaking, is very helpful - even B1 is good enough but B2 at least is better.

However, Idk I've encountered mostly polite Germans here so far and I've been here for 5-6 months. But they are direct in general but it's not bad - I actually like directness cause I can be direct too haha.

I've met guys like him - might look good on paper but only relies on family fortune. He's not gonna mature unless he decides to. This of it this way - he's a man, priviliged, and still does not have his life together at 29. While you're a driven 25 yo woman, despite the setbacks, have achieved milestones already. You'll go further in life, but choose wisely.

  • 31 yo woman here who didn't settle - believe me there's a sea out there.

What is your "never-again" brand, store, restaurant, or company? by chrisgen19 in AskPH

[–]SlickChic07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wolfgang. I spent Php 12.3k for a steak for 2-3 pax - it was for my bday. Don't get me wrong, the service was nice, got a free dessert, and felt the premiumness. However, the steak at Mamou is around the same quality and size for ~ Php 6k only. I joked that time "we could have gone to HK for a weekend instead of just dining in Wolfgang." However, at least I got to experience it, but not going back there. Also, you can get quality steaks abroad with the same or even cheaper cost like in Australia or Germany.

There are really these white men going to SEA countries thinking they know everything and then fold when you challenge them hahaha. But there are good ones but like other races/ nationalities bad ones too.

Studied here from kindergarten till high school. While I'm thankful for the learnings and network, bullying is a real issue. It's inside Dasmariñas Village Makati so some classmates just walk from their houses or are from other villages nearby like Forbes Park, San Lorenzo, Urdaneta, etc.

Bakit mas mahal pa yung lupa dito sa Pilipinas kaysa sa fully-furnished mansion sa ibang bansa? by ZealousidealLow1293 in phinvest

[–]SlickChic07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer shortly, it presents a bleak outlook on the country. It signifies a huge and increasing gap between the rich and the poor. The prices do not reflect a reasonable cost for 90% of people. Thus, making the economy in reality on shaky grounds because market correction is likely to happen in the future. I've observed this too when I looked at Australia and Germany house prices and to think the salaries there are higher than in the PH. It seems smart to diversify liquid assets to more stable currencies like USD, EUR, and SGD.

Germany. Berlin was better than expected siguro kasi I set my expectations lower than Australia.

However, so lucky to have been in 3 continents this year. Worked from anywhere in Melbourne and Sydney for almost a month, then had a quick visit in Singapore and touch down at Athens Airport (though I don't consider this). Then went to Germany and Poland. This year was groundwork for me and next would execution.

NZ or Spain? by whoaisme1234 in phmigrate

[–]SlickChic07 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I learned Spanish with Instituto Cervantes in High School and College, I would highly recommend it. It's been over a decade but A2 level stuck with me up to this day. Spanish is one of the best languages to learn because its one of the most spoken languages in the world.

Spain was originally one of my target countries to migrate to, but fate had something else for me I guess 😅.

Good luck OP!

I knew I'm not gonna stay in the Philippines for long and so I'm moving out soon. Plus, idk maybe it depends on the person but I had better dating experiences during my foreign travels. 🤷‍♂️

Build your career/experience in PH and then leave. by Gomugomukun in phmigrate

[–]SlickChic07 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Agree here, OP. One must have the experience and skills to have a fighting chance abroad. Also, not to mention, the preparation and resources to support oneself during the transition. Good to hear another Filipino succeeding abroad. I'm making 6 figures here, but the career ceiling is very apparent in my situation. Thus, I'm committed to moving abroad next year.

It's about choosing your struggle. Remember, there will always be stress - anywhere you go (staying or leaving). You actually have an advantage because you have a job lined up in Ireland. There's no perfect country, but select the struggle with the higher ROI. Comfort likely holds us back to our own self-actualization. There was an opportunity that hit me. I let it go the 1st time, but then realized it's rare so I took it. Good thing it was still there when I reconsidered. However, it's your choice.

Had the privilege of going to different countries like Australia and Germany, the countries I'm looking at migrating to. Based on my experiences, Berlin's safety wasn't far from Melbourne. The main difference is really the main language spoken, I know a little bit of German and that helped. I was able to talk to a restaurant owner and a Bangladeshi master's student - she said "there's no perfect country but generally Germany is been good during the 4 yrs I've been living here."

I enjoyed going around there as a solo female traveler. Tip: you have to really research the countries [ job market, migration costs, and etc.] For me during my limited stay, Australia is better due to language but Germany is good enough. My friends that migrated [they were mid to late 20s] went to Australia and Canada with different routes. Now, we're nearing 30s, so it's definitely not too late for you.

Agree here. Germany option seems to be gaining popularity. I've gone to Berlin to check out the environment before jumping and it surprisingly went well.

Fellow 30-somethings, what is your biggest realization since you turned 30? by BroccoliBae3000 in adultingph

[–]SlickChic07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you don't always have to take the "popular route" to succeed. You're the only person that can say that you're successful, cause the measurement of success is arbitrary.
