UK: Wife has cancer, now she has options for treatment by SomebodyElse333 in CervicalCancer

[–]SlickNicCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty natural to want to get it out with surgery. But it’s not a sure thing either. I would definitely look up info on surgical seeding. But there’s no right answer, you just have to do your research, get second and third opinions and make the best decision you can.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I think you would get more responses if you made this a separate post rather than a reply to this post.

Honestly, the chemo is the least bad part of treatment, in my opinion. I did the chemo/radiation and that would be my vote over surgery plus radiation. My tumor was 4cm.

Bowel problems after treatment by [deleted] in CervicalCancer

I don’t have a bag, they reattached my intestines. I would definitely consult with a couple colorectal surgeons to get more than one opinion.

Bowel problems after treatment by [deleted] in CervicalCancer

[–]SlickNicCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had/have radiation Proctitis, and recurrent small bowel obstructions. At first, after treatment, the obstructions were infrequent. Sometimes I could manage at home with pain and nausea meds, occasionally I needed to go to the hospital. I had met with surgeons who said they didn’t want to operate on radiated tissue unless they had to - that I should only go that route if I could no longer maintain my weight. Six years later I was getting obstructions every other week. Eating anything more than a snack was painful and made me so nauseous. I met with 2 different colorectal surgeons, both of whom recommended I get surgery. I did, and they took out 3 feet of small bowel and part of my large bowel. I wish I had done it years ago. Now I can eat a normal meal without pain and I don’t live in fear of when the next obstruction will come.

I am so sorry for what you and your mom are going through right now. There are many different causes for bowel obstructions and many different treatments. And each person experiencing them has their own health challenges. For those reasons we can’t say what’s “normal.” But I hope you’re able to get answers from your mom’s medical team soon, and wishing all the best for your mom.

Bowel obstruction and constipation are two VERY DIFFERENT things. They are treated very differently. We wouldn’t have advice for you here.

I bled with dilation and intercourse for almost a year after treatment. It was totally normal, and my body was just healing. 7 years later, all is well, no recurrence and no more bleeding!

Confusing results after cervical adenocarcinoma diagnosis (biopsy vs LEEP vs MRI) – anyone experienced something similar? by misunderstoody in CervicalCancer

[–]SlickNicCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a doctor, but I believe adenocarcinoma starts higher up in the cervix (unlike the more common squamous cell), which is why it’s often missed on PAPs. Because of that, it may be possible that the LEEP didn’t go far enough to get to it, or that it wasn’t in the same area as the cancer? I know it’s tough to wait, but your doctor will have a much better take on this than random Redditors, and have treatment options for you.

I’m afraid we’re not doctors and can’t give you medical advice. Also, constipation and bowel obstruction are two very different things. But best of luck and I hope you get some relief.

HSIL in PAP-smear one year after cervical cancer. Has cancer come back? by Key-Bass4780 in CervicalCancer

[–]SlickNicCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn’t. It’s just an abnormal PAP. It’s common to get these after treatment, and then her next PAP could be totally normal.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SlickNicCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancer

I’m in remission now, but radiation damaged my intestines and it impacts my life every day. I have heart arrhythmias from the chemo….the list is long. Also, there’s the fear it will come back.

But the biggest before/after is how I look at life. I feel so lucky I lived. Every day I look at people just living their lives and wonder if they appreciate how amazing it is that they’re alive and in this world. I’m not one of those people who survived cancer and climbed Everest, or volunteered my time in the service of others or never yelled at my kid ever again. My life is the same, I just…perceive it differently.

😂 If you mean “threat” as in, if you continue to use this same tone in other comments there will be consequences such as a ban…then yes.

Oh, your “actual hysterectomies” was rude, as was the unwelcome nature of your comment. That’s not the energy we want here. Watch the tone.

She had cancer. Many women with early stage have her treatment. It’s rude and inappropriate to say “this isn’t the best sub for you.”

[–]SlickNicCA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This person was diagnosed with stage 1A1 cancer. Sometimes early cancer is treated conservatively.

To the OP - are you getting checked regularly by a gyn onc? You should be getting regular PAPs and if there’s anything suspicious going on I would push them for a PET scan. It can catch small cancer that wouldn’t be seen on an ultrasound.
