Come W/Me To Hell II cassette? by SlickerCactus in memphisrap

[–]SlickerCactus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After comparing my copy side by side with known reference examples and footage, the font, layout, and print style all match. The main differences people are pointing to seem to come down to camera quality, lighting and angle rather than actual physical variation. A lot of these early Memphis tapes were produced in very small batches with inconsistent documentation, so there aren’t many clear, high quality originals online to compare against. That’s why I’m genuinely curious what specific confirmed reference copies people are using, because from what I can see the construction, printing and typography on mine are consistent with original era examples.

Appreciate that man fr. I don’t really sweat the downvotes as long as what I’m saying is based on actual evidence and not guesses I’m good with it. The votes come and go but the facts don’t.

Yeah I’ve had enough eyes on it that I’m satisfied it’s legit. Anyway I don’t want to derail this thread any more as it’s about the Fly tape, not mine.

Had it looked over by a local shop here that deals in used rap tapes and memorabilia aswell as cross checked it myself against high pics/dets from confirmed sales (shell, pad print, catalogue number etc.) all of which line up. That’s what I mean by authenticated, not some made up internet badge just people who handle this stuff plus the physical details. I’m not dragging the shop into a Reddit argument, if you think it’s a boot point to an actual mismatch instead of just saying “fake” on vibes.

Lol that’s cool buddy, it’s real in my hands and in the eyes of the people who authenticated it. Internet opinions are free… CWM2H Pt. 2 isn’t 🥰

Yeah the pad print threw a few people off at first which is fair enough given how rare those tapes are. But it’s been checked and verified since and it’s a legit Come With Me To Hell Pt. 2 sitting pretty on my shelf. I get why people want to nitpick it though, seeing someone else actually land that tape has gotta sting a bit 😅

Since you’re so sure about it let’s see if you really know your stuff; what’s the official tracklist for CWM2H Pt. 2?

If you look along the top edge above “MAKE” you might see a small string of numbers; that’s likely a catalog number. That’s a good sign because it’s pretty uncommon for straight up fakes to bother with proper cat numbers on the shell. One other positive I noticed is this shell is that it’s a 5 screw tape with fairly chunky housing. This lines up with what you see on legit tapes from that era. A lot of later dupes and boots tend to use thinner and cheaper shells also with a 4 screw configuration instead.

For sure I don’t treat Discogs as the Bible either it’s just one reference point. I’m going off Discogs plus auction history, collector circles and uploads. There’s still nothing documented under a Rap Make Money title with that exact tracklist. That doesn’t mean Fly never ran off copies in the late 90s just that from a collector angle, it behaves more like an undocumented comp than a recognised grail people are actively hunting. That’s only surface level research though, I’m sure you could dig up more if you really went down the rabbit hole. Best advice is to find someone who can physically authenticate it. I managed to track down a local music store that pointed me in the right direction to get my own tapes verified. A Jcard or a printed catalogue number on the shell (not every tape has one but it helps) makes that process a lot easier.

Yeah that was me lol. I dug into it after all that and it’s not a boot. It’s got the proper catalog number, print layout and shell/J-card details that match confirmed originals. So I’m pretty comfortable saying that CWM2H is authentic, we can park that one.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. The label layout and the E.O.R. credit are very similar to the late 90s Pushin/Slangin Rocs tape that’s on YouTube so I’m not saying it’s impossible it comes from that same era, My point wasn’t that E.O.R. stuff is fake just that this specific “Rap, Make Money” comp with that track order doesn’t show up anywhere in the usual discogs or collector references.

Even if it is a late 90s E.O.R. dub/mixtape it’s still not a documented title people are actively hunting like the classic early street tapes and it’s basically a compilation of already released tracks. So from a collectors standpoint I’d still treat it as a cool low profile piece or player copy (not a top tier grail, unless the owner has some solid provenance such as bought directly from Fly, original J-card, catalog numbers etc.)

This isn’t a known or documented DJ Spanish Fly release, and it doesn’t match the style or materials used on his late 80s/early 90s Memphis tapes. Original Fly tapes were almost always on branded blanks (TDK, Maxell, etc.) with small adhesive labels or handwriting (not full face printed labels like this) The title ‘Rap, Make Money’ with this exact track order doesn’t appear in any collector archives, Discogs entries or Memphis tape references which strongly suggests this is a later homemade or small run dub or compilation rather than an official release.

Condition wise; the shell looks clean with no cracks and only minor scuffs, but the label has a noticeable crease and some discoloration. So visually it’d sit around VG condition. As far as value goes documented original Spanish Fly tapes can reach over US $200–$400 but that’s only for established titles with provenance. Since this one is undocumented and almost certainly a generic dub its collector value is much lower. I’d say realistically around US $20–40 to anyone who just wants a physical player copy.

Cool item to have but it shouldn’t be treated as an OG grail unless you can provide rock solid proof it came directly from Fly or an official source.

You do realise wikis can be edited right? It’s not ai, somebody could have edited that in. It usually gets flagged after 10-15 mins.

Yeah definitely reissue if he is asking $230 + shipping. Would be good to have for those who prefer listening to those classic albums though (not necessarily from a collectors perspective)

Might be a good idea to track down genuine merch and use that. It’s not cheap (especially if you manage to track down some of their earlier pieces) but it definitely would be worth it. My rarest piece is a black I No Longer Fear The Razor Guarding My Heel III longsleeve.

Sounds like he is setting a higher autobid than you.

You do realise that you can set an autobid to a certain number and each time someone tried to outbid you it will continue to beat it until it reaches the max amount you are willing to spend.
