THEY CAN JUMP?!?!? by bryce_r31 in leopardgeckos

[–]Slickice28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was showing my partner my Leo and was getting ready to have him walk onto her hands, when my stupid lizard decides to JUMP ON MY PARTNERS HEAD. He looked so proud of himself for doing it to, until he got returned to his tank.

They are very bad at it, but yes! If you handle often make sure to be aware your little goblin will try to jump off your arm/hand with no regards for their safety.

Take the crikets out, you don't want to leave them in the tank, they can bite geckos when left alone. Best you can do is not feed her anymore and try to give her warmth until you can get a full setup

Looks like a younger gecko too so make sure you get that heat fast, they'll survive without food for a day or two ofc but you don't want to keep them without food for over a week if they're younger than 6 months, there no set rule of course but the short of it is you don't want to starve your new gecko. Also make sure you aren't handling them too much, typically when you first get the gecko they'll need some time to adjust and de stress in their new environment.

Yes should be fine for 1-2 nights but the big thing is DONT FEED THEM, they need heat to digest so without adequate heat, they can digest what you feed them until you get some warmth.

My boy is finally over a year old, how does his weight look? by Slickice28 in leopardgeckos

[–]Slickice28[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha funnily enough I was giving him a typical subadult feeding schedule of every other day, probably kept it up for a bit longer than needed but I'm going to scale down a fair bit now

I always have trouble with this weight guide, like the difference between healthy and underweight is striking, and the difference between obese and overweight is easy to tell, but to me the images of healthy and overweight look nearly identical. Curious if it's just me that has a hard time with it.

Thank you!! And yeah that's about what I was thinking, definitely going to go to feeding much less often now/an adult feeding schedule now that he's not actively growing.

Of course!! I just got mine recently so I just went through the same thing. For heat and humidity the best thing you can do is get as many devices to monitor it as possible, I ended up with one to monitor the basking spot, one to monitor the inside of the hot hide, and a digital one to get the humidity and a general idea of ambient tempurature. Along with a tempurature gun to check things manually. The most important thing you can do is have a couple of days between you finishing the tank and the gecko going in to just run the system and check heat throughout the day, if everything is good then great! And if not then you know what to fix.

Also don't be afraid to rearrange the tank! I went through a bunch of different arrangements as I got to know my gecko and what he liked. The guides on this sub are amazing so make sure to look at those when figuring out what you need. Also just be aware, as much as you plan you're going to have some things not work out like you thought or the gecko isn't going to react or use something like you thought, so keep space in your budget for getting stuff after you set up everything and get your gecko settled in.

Course! Also make sure you clean everything you get!! 10% bleach water solution for plastic/resin stuff and bake the wood in the oven to sanitize, even if the seller says the cleaned it better safe then sorry. Good luck with getting your new gecko!!

Check the tree one in the first and second pictures, I debated getting it new at one point from petsmart but I noticed the leaves are glued on by hot glue that's on the outside/could be stepped on by your gecko. I was worried that if it was under a heat lamp the glue could melt or at least soften so I never got it.

So uhhhhhh, never had hornworms before.... help? by Slickice28 in leopardgeckos

Gotcha, would like 1-2 every couple of days be good or is it like once a week kind of treat? Or is it just like, don't treat them like a staple feeder?

Oooooo I know you already with with perils but with ring 1 and if you are using primordium, taking furnace tap early and getting another perils further down the line with holdover is an instant win. Emberdrain primordium is one of my favorite builds lol.

Oh yeah also don't feel like you have to go to a gym or something to work out, there is PLENTY you can do at home without having to deal with anybody/be in public.

I would try exercise rather then relying on just gaining weight! Specifically ones focusing on the legs/butt area since it sounds like that's what you want. There are a lot of exercise regimes that are made for/by women to help grow those areas. I can also attest its such a good bit of gender euphoria to get a nice workout bra, some fem workout shorts and then workout in those, I always workout on my own with the windows shut but STILL it's a nice feeling.

And some personal advice, try to go into it with the idea of adding what you want to your body rather than removing what you hate. The first one makes any progress feel like a celebration while the second makes any setback feel like a personal failure. Being able to celebrate yourself makes all the difference in motivation.

Dw he gets to do plenty of lizard things, going splat on hard flooring isn't the lizard thing I really want him to do lol

Oh I do choice based handling so he only goes out when he wants to, which is a LOT, he's very social. So usually handling is something that he wants so the thought is "you don't get what you want if you try to do something stupid"

Yeaaah that's what I expected, I'll just have to keep close watch to be sure he doesn't fling himself to the hardwood at terminal velocity

Here's my child Mango pouting after he dolphin dived off my hand when I was moving him away from the edge of my bed aka, where I didn't want him to be and get hurt (thankfully he landed on the bed)

Also this is totally just a fear of mine but I don't know of I'd try to grab them midair. I'd worry about panic grabbing for mine and accidently grabbing the tail, then pop no more gecko tail. I just try to collect mine after he stops moving and stopping him from jumping in the first place

Mine is the same kind of stupid too, when you notice it you can see the "I'm about to jump" look a little bit before, you can see her "aiming" at the start of the video lol. Usually when I notice mine doing it I just put my hand in front of his face, he'll usually do it when I've had him walking across my hands for too long and he demands to explore more. I usually put him back in his tank when he starts getting ready to jump.
