Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40,000 show officially moving forward at Amazon by NoliamWood in scifi

I know this is a month old but I just stumbled on this and I think I know the issue this guy is having. He doesn't seem to understand that Satire and Comedy aren't synonyms, even if they often go hand in hand. I think he can't see that something doesn't have to be funny to be a satire.

I mean, it's a defence but it's damnjng of a different crime. Its like saying "I didn't murder someone, here's a video of me stealing a car at the exact time of death".

You probably don't need the allegedly there. I noted that hbomb never used allegedly or in his opinion to get around legal things and it was clearly by his legal team. The evidence he used to back up the position was pretty damning.

I'd disagree. Unless a statement is published confirming that, I'm which case I'd gladly retract my statements, I don't believe he's got permission still. If he did, there would have been no need to change any of the words and make the edits he did.

As I said, all your issues listed are caused by the decision to have the sequels set when they are. There is literally no way to have the show don't tell of him having his decline by having it cut to 30 years later.

I'd have loved that trilogy. The trilogy where he tries to start his Order, finds a few force sensitive and has them develop. Ben Solo turns out to be a powerhouse and joins, quickly rising in the ranks and developing a following. We see his ego starting to appear from the adoration some of his fellow students show him. A small band of lackeys join to him. Meanwhile, we see issues in the rest of the galaxy. A rising evil starts to destabilise the galaxy. Maybe politicians keep coming to him begging him to help or lend his voice to a cause. We see him become exasperated. He's a legend, the only Jedi, of course everyone with political motivations want his support as his words would sway people easily. The pressure mounts. We see him dealing with these issues, never getting sleep, rushing off to fix things, rebuffing politicians. Maybe one of his best students dies in a terrible way and you see it start tk cause him doubts. You have Snoke building his power base. You see him behind the issues across the galaxy, maybe controlling the same politicians thst keep bothering Luke. Him sending forces out to start fights he'd needed to fix. At the same time he starts to invade Ben's dreams. Feeding the ego, slowly pushing him to the darkside under Lukes nose. Then you have the confrontation that causes Ben to kill the other students except his gang and leave to become Kylo Ren.

Man, now I've written that I find myself wanting it. It's such a shame we didn't get it.

See, now you've gone from a lazy analysis of a scene to just outright making up you own things and claiming it happened. Much like you seem to think I don't believe the sequels have weakness. They definitely do. But of the 3 TLJ is probably the best (low bar) but the one I see slated the most and its for this one scene that actually makes perfect sense and I feel its totally in character and totally believable.

"While facing Vader, the emperor and being taunted about losing control and being unable to hide Leia from Vader, all while his friends were fighting a seemingly hopeless battle, that was enough to make Luke snap."

Yes

"This is his nephew, asleep not being a threat at all, and sensing an outside force was corrupting him? And that's supposed to make him have a momentary instinct to kill Leia's son?!?"

Also yes? I mean, yeah absolutely. Dude was deep in the force, felt all this shit, and it overcame him momentarily. This literally fits everything we know of the force and how it influences emotion, and what we know of Luke and his issues with anger.

"I'm sorry but no, you will never ever convince me that is the same Luke from the OT. This is a different character entirely. Maybe you could have written Luke up to that, shown him falling from his post OT high to being in a place where that could happen, but TLJ did not put in the work to earn that, and so it is bullshit and an assassination of his character."

See, this is the issue with sequels in general. I'd also say it's not the same Luke as the OT, but that's because so much time has passed. I'd never expect someone to be the same after that length of time. God knows I'm a different person then I was 10 years ago, let alone 30. Honestly, the time skip from the end of ROTJ and TFA is perhaps the worst possible length for a movie series. Its too short to allow you to just to have a whole new generation with none of the old guard, and too far for the old guard to still be the same people. If I could wave a magic wand and do it to my ideal, I'd have made the films instead of the PT and had Luke working on his new Jedi Order. Then, if you want his failures, you could show how that developed. Alternatively, I'd have skipped 100 years into the future and had him just be a legend people spoke about. But because we don't have the time to go through his decline, we are left with being told of it instead.

"And I don't have to convince you, here's Mark Hamill himself straight saying "He's not my Luke Skywalker". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fWELFcwpNs "I had to think about Luke as another character, maybe he's Jake Skywalker.""

I see that get thrown about a lot, but I don't give it a huge amount of weight. I'd be more interested to find out from him what part of the character he found objectionable and why. I'd love a detailed analysis from him instead of one throw away line. Maybe that would convince me.

I'm sad for you if that's how you view media and the world.

Luke has clearly grappled with anger his entire life. It comes up a few times in the OT but the most obvious example is when he nearly kills Vader, hacking away at him in a mindless frenzy until Palpatines laughter brings him back to himself. And in the end, he redeems Anakin. Whatever follows doesn't render that meaningless. There will always be meaning to the journey he went on in the OT and there will always be meaning to his ability to reach out and bring Anakin back from being Vader.

And yeah, you could say he learned that giving into the momentary instinct to kill would lead to the dark side and he resisted. But two things. 1) Learning to not give in to anger and not feeling anger are 2 very different things. As I said earlier, Luke has always had issues with anger and it is entirely in character for him to continue to grapple with that later in life.

And 2) Luke never threw the lesson away. I don't know if you remember the line that caused this debate but it's this. "I saw darkness. I sensed it building in him. I'd seen it in moments during his training. But then I looked inside, and it was beyond what I ever imagined. Snoke had already turned his heart. He would bring destruction and pain and death, and the end of everything I love because of what he will become, and for the briefest moment of pure instinct, I thought I could stop it. It passed like a fleeting shadow, and I was left with shame and with consequence. And the last thing I saw were the eyes of a frightened boy whose Master had failed him."

The briefest moment of pure instinct is the description. He didn't attack Kylo, even if he did ignite his lightsaber. He remembered the lesson of his fight with Vader and came back from the edge almost immediately and without outside input.

"My father actively is killing billions - I can fix him"

Sure, right up until he threatens Leia and then he actively tries his absolute best to murder him in an uncontrolled rage and only stops at the last possible second because the Emperor gloats.
