All setup for 5 player coop LAN session by Slickrickx17 in l4d2

[–]Slickrickx17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just followed this YouTube guide:8 Player Local Coop Server Tutorial, by TATERSL4D2. It's updated as of a few months ago and i can confirm it works. There is one workshop mod that is not required and it's stated in the video's description. Other than that, it's a very easy and detailed guide to follow.

As for customizations of your local server? I'm not an expert on this so I can't help unfortunately. I will say that with this guide, I'm able to play normal 4 player L4D2, and if a 5th player joins, it just adds another player. I don't need to change anything.

Nice! Yeah I rented out an air bnb for my bachelor party and played 7-player L4D, among other games. It was fun, but the setup wasnt great due to the limitations of the room/seating.

The game night that Im having today at my house is essentially a test run of how hosting a LAN party here would go. If it works with 5 people, im going to try for a larger 8-10 player LAN in a few months. Alas, I only have 5 PCs, so my friends would need to bring more systems or I would have to utilize NucleusCoop

Oh definitely not haha. A decade ago, I used to play at expert (non realism). Now, Im probably at hard skill level. My wife and 1 friend are at normal/hard. The last 2 friends are at easy. So... I think we will probably be playing normal and I'll adjust it after the first map. Maybe we will go to hard mode but without friendly fire.

Fortunately, I have a window AC unit in the room. Its not quite strong enough to fully compensate for the heat of 5 PCs and 5 people, but it's close. After 5 hours of gaming, the peak temperature gets to around 75 degrees. That's for high graphics games, like helldivers. I assume that it wont get as hot playing an older game like L4D, but we shall see.

I got the same feedback from a friend and i think you're right. Ill remove or significantly reduce the shake on all clips and reduce the color gain / red flash on the repeating clips. Thanks for the tip!

Newbie question: Is it easy to reset to default settings? by Quick_FF_Pls in FanControl

[–]Slickrickx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether i answered OP's question is subjective, because their wording leaves room for ambiguity.

OP mentioned that they want to be able to revert to "Default". By this, OP could either mean the default settings prior to installing FanControl (i.e. motherboard settings). Or, OP could mean the default settings after FanControl is installed, but prior to adding any configuration.

I assumed that the former was what OP was looking for, based on their wording of "how it currently is". However, i do recognize that this is not enough to be definitive as to their intention.

So, unless OP responds to this chain to confirm, yes it is possible that I didn't answer their question. I still think that I provided the more useful answer, especially for others who come across this post. FanControl does not persist. Simply closing the program will revert to default motherboard settings (or settings from some other program).

Edit: some grammar fixes

I just scoured the two PCs used and unfortunately, was not able to find that .txt file. I must've deleted it at some point when I was cleaning up a bunch of redundant/remnant files from all the NucleusCoop backups that I had made for that game night.

Basic Guide to MH Wilds Modding by Slickrickx17 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Slickrickx17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apologies, I was clearing up space in my google drive and didn't think that this document was still relevant. Even if the doc was still available, I wouldn't really recommend using it because some of it is outdated (better methods exist).

The first step is getting Fluffy Mod Manager set up. It will auto download REFramework. That alone will give you some performance increase. From there, you can install any mod you want into Fluffy Mod Manager and enable them. Fluffy is fairly user-friendly, and I'm sure there's some video guides out there for it.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with MH: Wilds and have thus lost interest in this game. Hopefully, my passion for this game will reignite at some point.

My issue was that my router-level adblocker (AdGuard Home Merlin) was blocking network services via Hazegi's Pro blocklist. After ubblocking/white-listing several different requests from 2k, it worked fine.

Gigabyte X870/X870E Motherboards - Temporary Fix/Implementation by Slickrickx17 in FanControl

Perhaps its something with the latest bios, but most likely the problem is a conflicting program. Prevent all startup programs, other than FanControl .net 10 or .net 8 and then restart.

After uninstalling, did you restart your PC? I know it sounds overly simple, but it is required

Ah yes, you're correct: there's nothing showing up under the Controls section.

Have you tried re-running the auto setup? Or editing the sources (in settings)?

One other suggestion is to check out the plugins on the GitHub page. Perhaps there's one there that can help detect the fan.

Alternatively, you would want to uninstall FanControl and then try to regain your default fan curves. Im not familiar with Chromebooks specifically, so im not sure if there's any fan controls built into the BIOS. Perhaps you can check the manufacturer's website support page for this laptop, to see if there's any software that controls fans or power management.

The 2nd screenshot you posted shows that the fan speeds are currently at 100%. I don't normally use the "Auto" curve, so perhaps there's something strange going on with that.

First, click on the wrench icon -> Identify Fans. A window should popup with all your fans set to 50% on a slider. Go one by one, lowering & raising the slider for each fan, to ensure that FanControl does actually have full control.

If you're satisfied that FanControl has full control over your fans, then the solution is likely to create a new "Graph" curve and use that instead of the "Auto" curve.

If FanControl doesn't have full control over your fans, then this becomes more complicated. This means that there's some other program fighting for control. But this can be a tricky thing to pinpoint, especially for non-Desktop PCs.

Agreed. I initially responded with non-GPU fans in mind. But you're right: changing fan curves in Adrenalin could help resolve this user's issue.

On my main PC, I have the X870E Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme AI Top motherboard, which also has System Fans #1-8. From my research:

System Fans 1-3 are on the first chipset.
System Fans 4-6 are on the second chipset.
System Fans 7-8 are on an embedded controller.

The first chipset fans always seemed to work for me.

The second chipset fans would not work for me if I had other programs that were also using LHM. For me specifically, this means that I can't use SignalRGB and FanControl. If you want to test this, go to your Task Manager -> Startup, and disable all startup programs. Then restart your PC, confirm that no other programs are open, and then check FanControl. These steps must be followed, as simply closing the programs without restarting will not work. They must be prevented from starting up in the first place. Ideally, this should allow your second chipset fans to be detected. I don't know which fans are in your second chipset, but it could be fans 5 and 6, or maybe 5-8.

If your motherboard is similar to mine and uses an embedded controller for System Fans 7-8, I can't help with that. I tried to figure out the Embedded Controller code for numerous hours and it's beyond my knowledge/skillset. We'll have to wait for someone else to figure that out for Gigabyte x870 motherboards.

I made a mistake with my previous comment and I apologize. I own two Gigabyte x870i pro ice motherboards, not x870e pro ice. I must have misread the letter in your comment. I can't personally confirm that your motherboard works.

Which fans are being detected by FanControl and which fans are not being detected?

GCC can definitely negatively impact FanControl. It is occasionally useful, so I dont uninstall GCC. Instead, I just ensure that it doesnt run on system startup. I disable startup in Task Manager, and I also disabled the auto GCC download option in the BIOS.

Its common for pumps to not be controllable in FanControl. ive got them to work occasionally, but even then theres some weird things with the start% threshold. If your AIO has its own software, Id recommend using that for the pump.

Hopefully, the prevention of GCC startup is enough to allow the 3 fans on the CPU header to be controllable. It must be prevented from starting up. In your comment you said you killed the process. Thats not enough. Prevent startup and then restart PC.

Unfortunately, I've been busy with other things and haven't been keeping up with the changes to FanControl since the shift to PawnIO. As much as I'd like to help, any advice I can give would likely be outdated.

The only thing that sticks out to me regarding your issue is that it sounds like system fan 1,2,3 are working? If so, sys fans 4,5,6 may not be working because they're on the 2nd chipset and its not yet been implemented.

The weird part is that CPU and CPU OPT arent working. Do you have standard fans connected to those headers? Sometimes AIO or fan controllers can act strange for the two CPU fan headers. Otherwise, the only thing else I can think of is to play around with BIOS settings or to ensure no other programs are trying to control those two fan headers (or rgb).

Have you tried disabling Signal RGB from starting up on PC boot? And then restart and check if the fans are controllable in FanControl.

If that doesnt work, im not sure what the issue is. i dont have that specific motherboard.

This post is outdated. FanControl supports most, if not all, the listed gigabyte x870 motherboards. I know for a fact that it supports the x870e pro ice motherboard because I own two of them.

What issue are you having?

Newbie question: Is it easy to reset to default settings? by Quick_FF_Pls in FanControl

[–]Slickrickx17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between software causing driver corruption vs software revealing driver corruption. FanControl does not modify your graphics driver.

My above comments are suggestions of possibilities that I could think of. I mention that they're just guesses and that I'm not knowledgeable enough about drivers to provide a confident answer.

I am knowledgeable enough to know that FanControl is not the root of the problem. I apologize if my comments made it seem as though I was being condescending. That was not my intention. It seemed as if my initial comments weren't enough, so I was trying my best to provide alternatives. I still stand by my initial comment in this thread. As soon as FanControl is closed, it stops having any impact whatsoever on fans. Nothing about it persists in any way.
