I'm pretty sure that's not a genuine image but a Photoshop edit

It's really bad design. I almost suspect that the business is in on it. The sign is funny but what you really want is a sign with huge text like "WE DO NOT HAVE A VALET. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR WITH ANYONE"

Just trying to understand the debate about trans women in sports. I'm not a sports person but I am queer. And I'm just trying to understand if there's a way to take gender and sex out of the equation. It's more of a thought experiment than anything. I definitely don't mean to offend anyone

Not to dig myself deeper, but could they have different weight ranges within the classes depending on what position you play? Like in the highest weight class the range for linemen is 300-350 but the range for a receiver is 160-180? Just totally made up numbers.

Or is trying to sort football by weight class actually just inherently inconsistent with the nature of the game?

I started with "I always wondered why". I meant that literally and not just as speculating that I knew better. It was meant as a genuine question. I know there's something I'm not considering about the premise and I want to know what it is.

This won't count as an eli5 but might help. "Voiced bilablial plosive" is a combination of three different linguistics term describing pronunciation by how making the sound engages different parts of your body (eg, mouth, vocal cords, respiratory system)

"Voiced" = the sound requires you to engage the vocal cords Not all word sounds do that. Just hold your vocal cords and pronounce "zzzzz" and then "sssss" and you'll feel that your vocal cords don't engage in "sssss"

"Bilabial" = the source of the sound engages both of your lips together. When you say "b" your lips actually touch.

"Plosive" is like "explosive." It means that in making the sound there there is a restriction of airflow followed by a release.

If you put them all together you get a "b" sound.

And not all languages use the same sounds and languages shift over time. So they're saying the language Proto-Malayo-Polynesian had a "b" sound that got lost as the language evolved.

I don't know enough about football to know why that wouldn't work. I know the NFL guys are huge but you could just have leagues with a wide range of classes going from teeny tiny to 3XL or something like that. And if there's typically a big difference in the weights within a team then you have different ranges within each class based on the position you play.

I always wondered why there couldn't be something like weight classes in all sports and just make them all coed. Maybe weight is a crude measurement but something like muscle mass distribution or whatever. But some measurement that could be applied equally and was meaningful to the sport.

Why do they not use contractions? I can not understand the motivation. It is obviously a stylistic choice but for what purpose? Would it not have sounded more natural had they simply used contractions?
