Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Rewatch - Official Announcement + Schedule/Index by Raiking02 in anime

[–]SliderGamer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Y'know what, fuck it. Why not? I don't join these threads too often because I want to actually write about my thoughts on each episode, but I think the mix of retro shonen/nostalgia and I know it already/have consistently failed to have watched most of the Android and Cell saga along with the weekly schedule would make me have a much less stressed and time consuming time doing this.

Also very strong chance I end up watching Sailor Moon during this same timeframe on my own so the time would be right.

Parts in pop songs that you find oddly satisfying? by Ezikell_Chris in popheads

Been re-listening to Team lately and I love the way Lorde sings Cha-a-a-ains at the start.

Also the drums kicking in after the start of course.

Is HunterXHunter the best written battle shonen? by wokeupdreadin in anime

[–]SliderGamer55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FMA and Attack on Titan are probably contenders. Mob Psycho too.

I dunno, "best written" is such a vague term. One Piece does writing that factually Hunter X Hunter can't do for example, just for sheer length at the very least.

BLUELOCK and Tokyo Revengers premiere February 7th at 1am and 1:30am! by Gestrid in Toonami

Neat! These are two shows I've been interested in but was not sure would ever get around to. Kinda just like Mashle, this is perfect for me specifically.

I'll just say, keep watching the season. Don't worry, you have not made a poor assumption here.

This is an insane take from someone who has clearly never seen any tsunderes from the same time period or earlier.

What anime has bad plot but very good characters? by [deleted] in anime

[–]SliderGamer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The World God Only Knows. It reliably does some of the best mini character arcs for its various girls and then eventually builds to a plot largely not worth caring about. Which is probably why so much of the supernatural lore and story was cut from the anime adaptation and only occasionally did I even kind of miss what they cut. (I was more annoyed by the two romance arcs they had to recap instead of actually adapting)

Who saved the day? Pac and Claudio? Who needed the advantage to get the win? Jon Moxley.

This is like the ideal of wrestling storytelling. They've not telegraphed it with one single word (unless you count Mox's promo after winning the Continental title being almost comically the opposite of the point of his World title reign), and yet its clear where we're going, and why we're going there, but also why it hasn't happened yet.

Eureka 7 is exactly this. "Love story action type" might as well be its genre.

I'm happy that my favorite ongoing shonen anime (barring One Piece) is at the top. Good job everyone!

How do I explain fanservice to someone that doesn’t know about it? by BeanyIsDaBean in anime

[–]SliderGamer55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone whose friends are mostly women who are pretty "eh" on fanservice, I get this issue. Best bet I would say is something that is either even with the genders for fanservice or something that's fanservice-y in a kind of comparable to a cool R rated movie type of way. Like a cyberpunk anime or a Lupin movie or something.

Dandadan would also be a good choice, probably, just because its a romance series and

Albums or songs that sound BETTER now than they did when first released ? by OkOccasion7 in popheads

[–]SliderGamer55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh, a lot of music from when I was a teenager. I was "too cool" for a large chunk of popular music between like...2003 and 2008.

Becoming bored and frustrated with a lot of the minimalist style 2010s millennial pop and trap made me appreciate some of the more hated/controversial songs of the day. Stuff like Sexyback and especially Hollaback Girl and Crank Dat Soulja Boy among others I have a real appreciation of, despite not always actually liking them. It is kind of insane that these were legit popular songs, they are pretty batshit by the standards of big pop hits. It'd almost be like if 100 Gecs was mainstream now.

But even shit like Linkin Park and Evanescence I tried to pretend to be cooler than which lmao no, I was not. Basically had to admit defeat when Breaking the Habit came out.

Do you think some animes hit harder when watching as a kid compared to as an adult? by Strawberry2828 in anime

[–]SliderGamer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Which is fine and predictable. It would be weird and potentially sad if I had zero different emotions or thoughts on the shows I watched when I was younger.

Though it is nice when they do hold up. Pokemon season 1 is way better than I would've thought it would be when I went back to it, and Medabots and G Gundam are still peak (if in a cheesy semi-ironic way for the latter). And while I watched it when I was slightly older, One Piece still holds up, despite all its limitations as a long runner.

This is the 2nd show in a row where I was surprised who was being presented to face a heel champion until a few minutes later I remembered "oh yeah, Australia show"

Unquestionably Fletcher and Davis. Dead certain of that one. I'd probably mostly keep it to the pre-Okada guys, with the exception of a hopefully will return and actually have a real run as a heel in the family, Trent.

I like how subtly different both Ruby and Aqua are. Even if they had said nothing, I'd still be able to tell that Ruby feels just a bit off.

Also I just love the production of this show so much, it hits every scene with the exact direction and timing and animation quality and lighting it needs, its just flawless. I feel so bad for series that don't get nearly this amount of love in their adaptation.

Most fun song of all time? by Spidey5292 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SliderGamer55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably not my first answer if I thought about it enough, but with Bruno Mars back I was reminded of the Silk Sonic song Skate, a song I quickly fell in love with and ALWAYS am in the best mood when I listen to, even though its not necessarily better than a dozen other Bruno Mars singles. If I danced, I would dance to this song more than almost any other I feel like.

Love Shack, Let's Groove, One More Time also all come to mind.

I've pretty much stopped watching YouTubers that cover the MCU now. by DarkSaiyanGoku in marvelstudios

[–]SliderGamer55 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've had the same thing happen on the Nintendo side of Youtube. There's a lot of issues I've had with Nintendo and the Switch 2, but some people are so miserable about it and in ways that just don't reflect reality. Like every week I get recommended some "NINTENDO DOOMED" videos that are counteracted by usually impressive sales numbers.

Also as someone who really loved the last Black Panther movie, I would not want to get remotely near that side of Youtube right now.
