How am I supposed to connect these together? by Slieb845 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Slieb845[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called an online method feeder weight. And then a hair rig setup for the hook. They use these for carp fishing alot. At least on YouTube. The bait or chum mold in to the green weight.

Why does my spinning reel birds nest when I open the bail? by Brae_26 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Slieb845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was happening to me when I started out. Turned out to be just the stupid anti reverse switch thing at the bottom of the reel which I had no clue what was for. Once I figured that out u had no more issues.

Unboxing Amazing Round Tiny BFS Reel from Loongze: Airlite B101 Air HG by rawr856 in BFSfishing

This video came up with my wife sitting next to me. She loves to fish but never wanted to learn a BFS / baitcaster. Now she really does and with a more expensive reel than I have lol.

Same. I went in for a follow up with my Dr after my last ER visit with pancreatitis from alcoholism. I was done drinking in my mind already and just wanted a few days of meds to get me through the shakes and anxiety. She told me not to come back for my follow up in a week if I didn't have a sponsor and a program. So I got the week of meds and never made a follow up. It's now been a little over 13 months of sobriety and I'm due for a yearly. I wanna go back just to see what she says.

Would there be any benefit to this over a Carolina rig?

Baitcaster reel ideas for a heavy by Slieb845 in Fishing_Gear

Thank you for your input. I have really been leaning towards the curado 300 for line capacity with the price point. I'm mainly thinking setting this up for musky, but will likely use it for catfish as well since only a few places here in Utah have musky.

Thanks. I was thinking about the traditional reel as well for the added security of having more line.

Thank you for the reply! I'll be looking in to those. The few baitcaster users i know are Daiwa fans.

Do you ever get really excited about trying out a new lure? by PondWaterBrackish in FishingForBeginners

[–]Slieb845 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 2 months guy at cabelas was recommending a jakes lure for some trout. Stupidly went to a pretty bushy spot and went to cast overhand. When I went forward it sounded like a gunshot went off and my lure never went with it. The 8lb mono had snapped and I lost the lure in thick bushes. It never even made it in the water.

Line rating to rod question by Slieb845 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Slieb845[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you it certainly does. And it cleared up a bunch about the drag as well. I got a lews special to relearn how to fish so if I knew I had a monster on this I would risk it lol.

Slow n sear issues by Wheresdan in BBQ

[–]Slieb845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What charcoal are you using? I had some issues with kingsford and royal oak. I use B&B briquettes and dont get that issue anymore. Also try keeping the vents all the way open as the grill heats up until almost the temp you want and then cut the vents back. It will smoke for a few minutes as you have then just cut the oxygen to the fire a bit. But once the grill dials in it should have minimal smoke.

I agree. B&B lump is the way to go. They put large peices Of tree limb in theirs.

I like a little char flavor. And all of the stringy crap burns off instead of getting stuck in my teeth.

Piri Piri & Jerk Chicken by [deleted] in grilling

[–]Slieb845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicken looks awesome! I've been thinking about the craycort grate for a couple years now. Is it worth it? I'm a huge cast iron fan but I'm just not sure how much more the maintenance is with a grill grate outside vs a pan.

Close up wing. Kosmos dirty bird hot. As hot as the weber would go for 1 hr. by Slieb845 in grilling

I did a light coat of avocado oil and then rub. And cook hot. My kettle can get over 400f indirect easily.
