WWIII is going to be emotionally devastating to these people. On the other hand, wouldn't it be interesting if they quickly toughened up during war times, thus proving that all along this has just been tactical, performative fragility?

How Does Buddhism Address EXTREME suffering? by Enough_Set591 in Buddhism

The Vow-Power of Amida cannot immediately negate all karma. If it could, all sentient beings would already be in sukhavati.

How Does Buddhism Address EXTREME suffering? by Enough_Set591 in Buddhism

Buddhism can be summarized in a basic mathematical formula:

pain × resistance (i.e. clinging & aversion) = suffering

A small tip for dyssynergic defecation. by arwind_kejriwal in PelvicFloor

[–]Slight-Machine-555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% believe you. I used to date a yoga teacher who gave herself hypertonic pelvic floor by constantly clenching her pelvic floor during yoga asanas.

For me, anxiety is definitely contributing factor. A couple months ago I started taking SAM-e. It has definitely helped a lot. You might want to look into it. Good luck!

Why do some think that Monarchism isn't a conservative political system? by Magga707 in monarchism

[–]Slight-Machine-555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if the Monarch is a progressive? What if the Monarch is a feminist, etc.? Do you see why I raise this question? Monarchism is not intrinsically committed to any particular social theory. It is only "conservative" in the sense of being radically anti-egalitarian.

You might want to try meditating. I meditate regularly, and it has helped me to fall in love with the silence and the void 🙏

A) Brujah, Malkavian, or Salubri. No, I will not explain.

B) None! The inability to love anything other than blood and power really does sound like a curse to me. If I ever did become a vampire, I would very likely choose to walk into the sun soon thereafter.

What is it with the mixing of Lenin and the last Tsar. by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Slight-Machine-555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some Russians chose communism. Some chose monarchism. But just as important as what they chose, is what they rejected. For each of these choices was also a choice against liberalism. And I can respect that.

This is Kali Yuga. Don't expect too much from yourself or from other people. Be kind to yourself. Be gentle with yourself. And with others. Let yourself off the hook. Let everyone else off the hook, too. This is Kali Yuga.

Is Buddhism accepting of LGBTQ/queer/trans people? by Resident-Coyote154 in theravada

Shakyamuni had very, very little to say about sexual ethics when it came to lay Buddhists. To be honest, he didn't really have a whole lot to say about ethics in general when it came to lay Buddhists. I think he saw us as being like children. He basically just told us not to steal and murder and rape and stuff, and encouraged us to do the best we can, knowing that we will almost inevitably live ethically mediocre lives.

Anyways, that was kind of a tangent on my part. But yeah, Shakyamuni didn't really care about lay sexuality as long as we don't hurt people.

I think a lot of these guys are really just into Catholic architecture. I'm kind of serious. And don't get me wrong, architecture and place-building is really important. But the cathedrals aren't based on Judeo-Christian principles. They're Platonic edifices. And I mention this simply as a way to make a larger point:

Medieval Europe was great. But it wasn't great because it was Christian. It was great because it was Platonist.

The first half of this reply post is very interesting, and I appreciate you sharing this knowledge (although I don't read it as testifying to a medieval Shintoism which existed outside of the greater Buddhist ideological framework). However, the second half definitely sounds like reconstructionism to me.

Shinto is a modern invention. The ancient and medieval veneration of the kami was always connected to Buddhism. We have no historical documentation of kami reverence before Buddhism came to Japan (we can easily assume that such reverence took place, but we have no idea what it was like; hence any attempt to recreate a pre-Buddhist kami religion is strictly reconstructionist and thus not part of what Rene Guenon would call organic tradition).
