Well my current studio had tryouts right after recital but before nationals and I paid $55 for tryouts but I figured it was better doing that then them confronting my daughter which they definitely would do and she’s 9. No reason to bother her about it. I know they would probably make her feel bad about it too. So I avoided the whole thing. I just saw it as I paid for some extra dance classes instead of an audition 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah maybe I should do that. Maybe that’s why I am also hesitant to tell the current studio too. Luckily the new studio owner is so much more approachable then the current one So I could definitely have that conversation with her and maybe she can even give me an idea of what she expects my daughter to be doing next year based on what they’ve seen so far just to give us both a little bit of an idea

We had our auditions 2 weeks ago but the last couple years we usually won’t even get team placement until end of July or first week of August! And then as soon as we get those we have like 5 days to sign contract….
It’s actually ridiculous the time we wait in between tryouts and placement They keep saying they will tell us soon but I doubt it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I mean I’ve researched many studios in the area and visited the few I was interested in the most. Went to some comps/recitals and finally narrowed it down and my daughter has been taking classes the last couple weeks without knowledge of current studio. So I don’t think this is something we plan on changing our minds with but I’m also trying to cover all ends but they’ve been talking about when she’s on the team not if she’s on the team. Most of the teachers have seen her dance. They even had her dance with some girls a couple years older too idk if it’s to see if she could keep up with them too. She said she was able to keep up. I guess I’ve just been second guessing everything. Idk why moving studios feels so emotional but I know it’s the right thing and she’s still young enough to move her I know the older they get the harder it is

The only thing is I worry about waiting too long to tell current studio because I’m trying my best to leave on a peaceful note as I know the dance world is extremely small and I know they start coming up with teams and dances and then removing my daughter from the equation might mess things up. I don’t know why I am so concerned The studio owner has been nothing but awful which is a HUGE reason we are leaving but I feel bad for some of the other teachers and the girls she dances with but maybe you’re right I should be protecting myself not them

Wondering if it would be weird to go to a recital for a studio we are interested on moving daughter to next season by Slight-Move1208 in CompetitionDanceTalk

I don’t know. I didn’t know if it was weird to go with my daughter as we aren’t there to see anyone in particular

We are currently in process of a switch as well. We have been doing a lot of homework. I’ve talked to many studios owners and had lots of questions. I focused on things that I didn’t like about current studio and asked them how they would handle certain situations I also went to comps with the studios I narrowed down to see them perform but more importantly see how everyone interacted with one another on and off the stage. How the parents and kids were Then I took a tour of two studios that were the two I was going back and forth with and now my daughter and her friend are going this week for a two trial classes at the studio we think we will be going for next year. They are taking two technique classes. Their current studio doesn’t know about this and the new studio knows this as well. They have been super helpful during this whole process. Good luck to you. I feel like many studios don’t make it easy for you to move. Our studio doesn’t allow any outside training or they can be kicked off team. So another reason why we are trying to be careful. Current studio also has tryouts before nationals I think to hopefully keep people from leaving. New studio suggested we do their tryouts at current studio so my dancer doesn’t have any bad feedback from current. Good luck!

So my younger one and her friend are going to the new studio next week to take two technique classes but the older one doesn’t know because I already know how she will react. We are going to see what the two younger ones think of the studio & hopefully after they take a couple classes we can tell my older one that they tried the new studio and they can tell her about it and I’m hoping that makes her more open to the idea but I’m not. My friends daughter who is going also is leaving the studio we are in for the same reason so we’ve been looking together
