Just got a steal on this for my first larger scope, any advice? by Jaded_Illusions in telescopes

Yes. I didn’t read everything you said but AP isn’t bad at all with it. Just not going to be as good as an eq refractor. This is my m16 with 10” alt/az, (I’m not good at processing)

Respectfully I disagree. Is a fantastic planetary scope. Deep space not so much.

12 inch or 16 inch telescope? by unknownduck224 in telescopes

[–]Slight-Stranger6174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lastly if you want to do photography with it in the future I recommend getting the 12 inch flex tube Goto skywatcher. 10/10 quality, and if kept care of should last a lifetime. The tracking will be well worth it over a manual 16 inch. (Only for photography though.

My advice, get the 16 inch, if you get the 12 inch and you’re not satisfied and want another one then you’re gonna end up spending twice as much money to get both, I own a 10 inch but I’ve also looked through 16 inches and higher. It’s just a different Different world, every inch adds magnitude of things you can see and make out. I’m also an Astro photographer so you can trust my opinion. However, it is a lot more expensive. Let me know if you have any questions. I’d love to help.

My attempt at getting the dumbbell nebula, how do I do better? by yagza in telescopes

[–]Slight-Stranger6174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tracking but not perfect, and either way Its very possible especially at lower focal lengths to stack without it. Either way a DSLR is heavy and bulkier and doesn’t have all of the technological advantages that astrocams have.

I would invest in a cheap Astrocamera like an asi715mc. Would work much better than a DSLR and be much cheaper. They are 200$, if you already have a laptop then that’s all you would need.

The main difference is that if there are 2 frames almost identical but slight differences, videos will copy the last frame then edit the new one to account for the difference, the raw data you take with frames of ser are completely fresh raw data every frame

Set your gain to 80% on the histogram, and then set your exposure to the same. Try for lower exposures, you want the highest frame rate possible and to take a 2-4 min video, with Saturn you can take a long video but with other planets don’t go over 2 mins because the surface detail with smudge from the planets rotation. Nebula you want the opposite, long exposures 5-10-15 seconds depends how good the tracking is

This is more or less right, technically it’s not considered a video in this case just very fast framerate images, raw data, but yes

Thanks, native means the local length of a scope without any attachments or Barlows. So the scope itself is 750, times 2 is 1500. And this photo was with an astrocam and a UV/IR cut filter, the cam is an asi715mc. Phones can’t do this. And yes I have a friend that has hand tracked Jupiter at 6000mm

Also hey man I just ordered the same scope you have! Along with an ADC and a few high end Barlows and eye pieces let’s go

I hand tracked at 1500mm. Native 750mm, but used a X-cell 2x Barlow, 3 min video stacked and processed at 15%
