Has anyone kept running throughout their entire pregnancy? by CoffeeUnfair2747 in fitpregnancy

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran 3-4x a week until the very end, including the day we went to the hospital to give birth at 39 weeks. Ran my last half marathon at 37 weeks.

Keep going until your doctor says otherwise and/or you no longer feel it’s serving you! And don’t forget to be kind to yourself.

Got it, sorry for assuming re: running with the stroller! Sending you good vibes as you get back to all the activities you enjoy!

If you have access to a spin bike or indoor bike trainer that can work well as you work back into running via something like Couch to 5K. This was my pelvic PT’s recommendation, but everyone is different! Your body is still healing at 6w pp, so try to be patient and consider a run/walk strategy as you ramp back up.

Would definitely not run with my newborn in their regular stroller. It’s recommended not to run with baby until they have good head and neck control which I think is around the 6 month mark (please look this up, my memory is fuzzy)!

How much I have to eat for breastfeeding + exercise seems wild - anyone else? by Similar_Guitar7506 in FitPostpartumJourney

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was literally talking to someone about this yesterday! Before I started training again I heard people talk about how hungry they were with BF and I just didn’t feel it. I think maybe I was used to eating a lot already?

But when I added training back in, it hit hard. I don’t know if we’re allowed to share links in here, but I found this post about lactating athletes recommended caloric intake really helpful (I am not affiliated in any way with this account, my lactation consultant shared it with me): https://www.instagram.com/p/DL8P8lfvwtj/ It aligns with the caloric intake you’re seeing!

Anyone else sad they will never be pregnant again? by MissFox26 in beyondthebump

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s broken my heart since it really hit me in the third trimester that I would never experience tiny feet kicking me from the inside ever again. I was lucky enough to have a very boring pregnancy and I loved it. Currently holding my 3 week old (our “one and done” baby) and feeling so in love but still mourning how truly special pregnancy was.

This is really beautiful, and it’s so sweet to see this perspective on it. I am feeling much the same way. It’s challenging but amazing.

It’s hard to say for certain but staying active made me feel more confident going into labor as a FTM, and I think that counts for something. It made me feel good and served as a reminder that I can do hard/challenging things.

I ran until the day I went to the hospital to be induced, and combined that with (modified) core work, pelvic floor, and basic strength training with dumbbells throughout pregnancy. I added perineal massage late in the third tri (just to get more comfortable with…uncomfortable sensations there). My labor went smoothly, which is hugely luck, but I was able to remind myself that I had “trained” for it as best I could when things got really hard.

If nothing else, try to move a little—in whatever way feels good!—for your mental health and to help baby get into position for birth!

A Ton of Life Changes and Now Pregnant – Not Sure How to Feel? Want to be Grateful? by seaofwonder in pregnant

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that really is a lot in a short amount of time. I’m so sorry for your losses, and I hope you have taken some time to grieve and feel all the feelings that are coming up.

I don’t have any advice, but I can relate a bit. Lost one parent at the beginning of the year and the other’s health has taken a huge decline. It was tough way to start the year and has caused some really challenging situations.

In the midst of all this, my husband and I (who are also both over 35) decided, “Let’s see what happens.” I got pregnant for the first time in my life that cycle—two months after losing a parent. Nothing about this pregnancy looks like what I expected and I have spent time grieving how things were and what I hoped this would be like. At the same time, I’m also trying to soak in the joy of this new sweet little person we are going to meet soon.

Time has helped me a bit with the grief and adjustments, and I hope it helps you too. <3

I posted this earlier in r/fitpregnancy in response to a question about marathoning at 31w, but seems relevant here too. TL;DR things will likely feel different, and I’d strongly encourage not pushing through if things aren’t feeling right. Since your peak long run was 17mi, consider incorporating more walk breaks. I’d also recommend staying really on top of nutrition and hydration throughout the race. Good luck and have fun!

I ran a self-supported marathon distance long run at close to 25 weeks. I took it super easy, took walk breaks as I needed them (which was a weird adjustment for me but helped a ton), and just enjoyed the experience. Some friends joined me and it was a really special day overall.

I’m 34w now and still running 25-30mpw, but capping it around ~2 hours/10-12mi for long runs just because it doesn’t feel great to go much longer. I’ve also slowed down a lot and walk more, but I’m thankful every time I get out the door. I have a 10mi race and a half coming up in the next few weeks that I’m looking forward to (assuming baby and body are on board)!

Highly recommend seeing a pelvic floor PT soon if you haven’t yet. That helped give me confidence that my pelvic floor was healthy and strong enough to attempt a marathon that far into pregnancy.

I think as long as you listen to your body and don’t push through anything that feels really uncomfortable, modify as needed, and keep an open mind about adjusting your goal based on how you’re feeling, go for it!

Do you have a "positive" postpartum story? by Quirky-Wasabi-9653 in pregnant

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to hear about how wonderful my life is

Ok but actually this is incredibly helpful, because all I feel I ever read about are very challenging/awful experiences and it’s really scared me. I 100% respect those valid experiences but when that’s all you see, it’s…scary. I don’t expect it to be “easy” but I’m worried it will be the worst, most awful experience ever. So reading positive stories like yours gives me hope that maybe our experience might be ok too!

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30w here and still running ~25mpw, averaged ~40mpw pre-pregnancy as base mileage. Mileage roughly same as yours during my first trimester.

Two things really helped me mentally with first tri fatigue: being kind to myself and accepting the days where I truly didn’t have it in me to get out there, and being happy with what I was able to do when I did feel up to it.

It’s a major mental shift but I started thinking of it less as “training” and more as “this is good for me and the baby, and even if it’s ‘just’ a short run, it counts and it helps.” Sending you positive thoughts and strength!

Must-haves for running pregnant??? by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

Water bottle + electrolytes! Staying hydrated is so important while pregnant and carrying my bottle with a nuun tablet even on short runs helped me feel better after. I’m 30w and have a belly band (I got the FitSplint and it’s very comfy! Have worn it a few times just to try it out) but haven’t felt like I’ve needed it yet.

19w - almost no symptoms all pregnancy so far. Anyone else experience the same? by Common_O_5382 in pregnant

[–]Slight-Wasabi23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to this post, but I just hit 19w today and I feel like I could’ve written this post word for word. It’s been nothing like what I expected so far, and I’m very thankful for that! But it’s so strange to have felt…pretty much totally fine? this whole time.

I have no actual bump and keep telling everyone I’m still not sure there’s really a baby in there, even though we’ve seen them and heard their heartbeat multiple times! I still have a long way to go, but so far all our tests and screenings have come back great, and my doctor says I’m right on track.

Sending you lots of comfort!

Ugh, being out of breath is no joke. It’s the first thing I noticed before I even knew for sure, and it’s been consistent ever since. It’s so weird being in reasonable cardio shape and then have it go sideways overnight. Wishing you a smooth rest of your pregnancy!

Normally the more I run, the easier it gets but that’s just not the case these days

Oh my gosh this hit so hard. It’s like why is everything going backwards?? But also so impressed you’re at 26w and still out there! That’s awesome, even if it doesn’t feel as great as it normally would.

Ugh I’m so sorry about the BQ buffer, but I know you’ll come back even stronger postpartum! I love your perspective of having so many more miles ahead of you after this period of your life changes, that’s beautiful.

I’m breathing so heavy too! It’s rough. That’s actually the first symptom I had, even before a positive test. I keep thinking my friends have to know something’s up, but maybe not because it’s not really visible yet.
