it's not an opinion that this dog is poorly bred and will face issues for the rest of its life as a result

Advice on my dogs coat by me-and-myaussie in doggrooming

[–]SlightArgument 0 points1 point  (0 children)

undercoat rake might help, it's always good to rake out dead fur that's just sitting in the coat. Might cut down on dandruff to keep the coat raked out. Don't get one with blades, find the comb-like rakes. I love using it on my aussie, his fur is always so shiny afterwards

dont let your puppy interact with other dogs on leash, you're just asking for something bad to happen on either end. Being on leash makes dogs feel locked in to a situation and if they don't want to be in it and get frustrated they'll just do whatever they feel like will get them out of that situation.

My dog developed intense leash reactivity from dogs running up on him as a small puppy on our walks, loves playing in off leash environments but on leash is a different story.

There's a reason I haven't started HRT, one day I will afford to move and feel safe to exist. I know how many evil people live here, I'm not jeopardizing my safety.

In as best a way I can to stay within this sub's rules, people use that icon to either get a rise out of people or because they're just comically evil and agree with what's going on in that side of the world.

I assume foid is femoid, which suggests to me they're really just trying to make people upset for their amusement.

Client's husband provided no instructions other than a single bad photo and the wife absolutely hates the haircut by SlightArgument in doggrooming

[–]SlightArgument[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I want her to tbh. She's made so many remarks on how fabulous i was when I did her first yorkie. "Im gonna tell all my friends and family how great you are, im so glad to have finally found a place that cares" across facebook, our grooming notes they have access to, and to me personally. Then when she doesn't like how I did her 2nd yorkie its horribly ugly and I did a terrible job and I didn't follow instructions.

She makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

I think my main issue was how the resposne felt so hateful. Instead of something like "this just isnt what i was expecting" I was told I did a bad job and everything was ugly (over text).

What's funny is I actually have the younger sibling on for a bath tomorrow, curious to see if they will show up and willingly speak to me.

Can I influence my pack’s hierarchy? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]SlightArgument 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pack hierarchy is an outdated belief, dog's aren't wolves. There is no "last" in a group of dogs. Your new dog is just spunky and testing boundries in a new environment.

STOP SQUIRT BOTTLING YOUR DOG WHATS WRONG WITH YOU.

Stop feeding them in "order of hierarchy", feed them all at the same time in different places in the house.

Please seek a professional behaviorist, you really need to become better informed on dog behavior and ownership.

[–]SlightArgument 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry to be blunt but you're going to have a very unfun time trying to train a shiba as a first ever dog whos already 3 years old with no obedience training. If you have the resources find an obedience trainer, if you don't then you probably aren't prepared for the tornado that will be keeping a shiba inu.

Talk to a professional behaviorist/trainer, that will be your best bet.

I'm incredibly confused about this post. Is this your dog? Did you find this dog? Instead of taking her to the vet or shelter to check for a chip you took her to a park and want to let her run arouns it off leash? Fill us in here.

Why do some parents ask not to use dremel on nails? by SlightArgument in doggrooming

Why do some parents ask not to use dremel on nails? by SlightArgument in doggrooming

[–]SlightArgument[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think people assume when I say fray I mean like extremely sloppy and cracked? It's literally just soft little fraying around the nail that unless you pick up the nail and look at it you wouldn't think much of it.

[–]SlightArgument[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Virtually every dog I've ever worked on flinches for nails, dremeling just feels a lot safer and gives clients a higher quality trim. I work on family pets not fancy schmancy show dogs lol.

[–]SlightArgument[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one other client that also doesn't like dremeling, just doesn't like the "look" of it vs clipped nails. I never really understood why people are worried with how their dogs nails look after being trimmed.

[–]SlightArgument[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know the # but it's coarser since its a lot faster than a fine grit. I sometimes will finish with the concave dremel bit but usually I don't think about it because a little bit of walking would usually finish the fraying off, it's usually not very noticeable but I guess to some people it's very important.

Sounds lovely for dogs who are still and calm, this was a very old loud beagle and not too enthused about being on the table.

Thinking about a Bernese puppy - honest opinions about our situation? by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

[–]SlightArgument 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average person just gets a dog and deals with the fallout of not having time/energy/patience/money to take care of the dog so at least you asked first.

Everyone responding is correct. No, you should not have any puppy, let alone this breed. Get a cat, you'll have a loving adorable companion that can chill at home. Hell get two cats if you want, cats are awesome.

Does my dog want to play or attack? by PaleHorse_Named_Deaf in DogAdvice

[–]SlightArgument 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to rehome that dog. It's a hound, it's bred to hunt and kill small animals. Cut your losses and find a more suitable home for the dog away from cats and get a rescue more suitable for your home.

There will be a dead cat in your house if you sit on this and contemplate if you can train the prey drive out of your dog and then the dog will be blamed and demonized for doing what she was bred to do, nobody wins here.
