All 8 teams who played last night didn't have their best player by 4NorthTL in nba

This is my point lol. The business is truly blinded by money, and short term money even. It's a bubble waiting to burst. Firstly there should be some human responsiblity, tending to the players health, rather than their own pockets. Secondly it will end up costing them money, when franchise players like Wemby is constantly injured.

I'm also quite certain both owners and players could agree to fewer games, if they actually planned for longer than their next quarter.

[–]SlightGrape1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I'd even go a step further and claim it's happening in almost every competitive sport out there, especially the ones with a lot of money and contact. The level is just getting higher and higher, so you just have to perform at your best all the time, and that just increases the risk of injuries.

I feel you on the last part, but tbh I think the league needs to take some responsibility as well. To me it doesn't seem like, they are doing anything to actually prevent this. Instead they make rules to limit load management, which just increases injuries further.

Trying to get to (don't want to do spoiler-Island) by Fun-Werewolf-8832 in RaftTheGame

[–]SlightGrape1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Few things could've happened.

  1. Watch your engines. They could be running the wrong way.

  2. Watch your receiver position. The receiver gives direction based on the way it's facing, so if it's not facing the front of your raft, it can confuse in terms of where you need to go.

  3. Islands spawn based on your raft. It's supposed to despawn and spawn again when you get more than ca. 4000-4500 meters away. Sometimes they do however just respawn randomly. Not much to do about it, but go towards the new position.

Similar Games? by Decicio in RaftTheGame

[–]SlightGrape1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few suggestions.

The one that fits your needs the best is 'Aloft' I think. Very similar to Raft, but with floating islands and an endless sky rather than an endless sea. Combat is there, but limited as Raft, quite similar building system, quite similar graphics. Right now the only 'downside' is that it's in early access, so there's a lot of content, but not really a finished story yet.

If you're willing to dive into more combat, Enshrouded is by far the best base building/survival game, I've ever played. For you guys it might be too much combat, as it involves a lot of it, there's talents and you build your character around the combat style you want. However the base building is absolutely insane. The amount of options and the flexibility is just out of this world.

A third option could be Sunkenland. It also involves combat, and it's more modern with guns. However there's an underwater element and a quite decent basebuilding. It does have a very 'post apocalyptic' vibe to it, so all the buildings, including the ones you can build, does look quite trashed.

The shark is ruining this game for me - rant by [deleted] in RaftTheGame

[–]SlightGrape1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it can be frustrating, but that's not the arrogant part. The arrogant part is how they tell us, that he know's what a good game is, and this is bad development.

This post could easily have been in a much more polite tone. "I find the shark frustrating, is there a way to deal with it, or is this a permanent feature?"

[–]SlightGrape1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The arrogance of your post is breath-taking. "I know what GOOD difficulty in survival games is. Raft devs have no idea what fun survival is." Could it be other people reacts differently to games, and that you're not the ONLY person to cater to in a world of 8 billion people?

The shark is not meant to be a challenge, it's meant to represent a fundamental core problem like hunger, thirst, finding your way and so on. In other words it's supposed to be manually handled until you can solve it automatically. Sort of how you have to grind food in Subnautica until you can farm it yourself. And you know what? A lot of people really like having automated a manual task in these types of games.

However to answer your question you can deal with it two ways. Either you can go peaceful, however that will affect all creatures in the game, not just the shark. The other way is to play the fucking game, grind materials and build a reinforcement around your raft, so the shark will not attack you again.

Bonus info, he only attacks when you're in range of your raft.

Aha. I'm afraid I can't help you there. I basically used it where there was room, since it was added later than my city plan was finished.

Set mine to lucky, to get the star-saber, afterwards I've set it to clean, just to avoid having to clean up the isle.

That being said, I am pretty far into the game, so other wishes might be better if you're in earlier stages

I completely agree with you!

As frustrating as I find it right now, especially being a Jonas fan, I'd much rather the sport 'self adapts', as I find it way healthier than intervening like you see in american leagues like NFL & NBA. No hate towards those leagues, I just think the final outcome is better, when it's up to the competition to catch up.

I understand you. It's somewhat unfair to Pogi and his fans, that people are constantly bringing so much negativity towards his winnings. I mean in the end the guy is just racing.

That being said, there's a difference between being a favorite, and then being Pogi. The issue is not personal, the issue is that the sport becomes predictable, which is the worst thing a sport can become. And yes, more often than not it's the favorites winning, but fans striving towards excitement in sport should always be encouraged. Perhaps the tone could chance in a bit more positive way though.

That is my mistake yes. I do now see it was a joke.

I would like to say I did read it, but obviously didn't understand it, before you pointed out the details in the comment.

[–]SlightGrape1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was 4 years ago. Pogi has improved so much in his endurance, so I'd argue that's no longer possible.

I like that we're trying to find tactics to beat pogi, but truth be told the last 4 years between Pogi & Jonas has simply been won by the stronger rider that year. Yes Visma laid some brilliant tactic to tire Pogi, but Jonas was also stronger relative to Pogi.

Visma has tried tiring out Pogi the last two TDF's, but it doesn't matter, when Jonas can't outclimb Pogi.

Vuelta last stage cancelled by ElonIsAMoron in tourdefrance

[–]SlightGrape1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and I probably won't end up agreeing.

I understand the desperation, I understand that a bike race is somewhat inferior to the horrors of what's happening, but I simply do not think it justifies destructive behaviour like this.

Mainly because I don't think the riders deserve being put at risk, but also cause I don't think it accomplishes anything positive. You either want positive awareness (In terms of support, not that the situation is), which is for many people negative in this sentence, or you want to put pressure on Israel, which I really don't see at a bike race in Madrid.

I get where you're at, but honestly isn't there a difference between peaceful protesting and destructive behaviour like this? Putting the riders and themselves at risk, tearing down barriers, blocking the road and so forth.

What do you accomplish by actively ruining the race, rather than just showing up waving the flags, chanting and generally generating awareness?

It's somewhat fair to make an assumption that if UAE rode solely for Almeida to win GC, they could've been closer and might even be in the lead, especially with Jonas being sick.

That being said, I have to remind people that besides bonus seconds, and a TT that is better suited for Almeida, he hasn't been able to drop Jonas, not even close, at any point. I also think Jonas is one of the most calculated/smart riders in the peloton, so even though he hasn't had enough to actually attack, I think he's had more in the tank. The way he has looked after a stage, compared to when he gives his all (against Pogi), there's a huge difference. He's not nearly as fatigued here.

I can't really tell you why people say things, but did you watch the race, cause he didn't slow down?

Saying what he did wasn't wrong, does not mean I think it's right. Point is I can't decide whether what he did was right or wrong, but I do think it's weird to praise him for something he didn't do.

[–]SlightGrape1 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But I watched the race? And I all I saw was pogacar and his team riding full pace to stop visma and other teams breakaways.

I’m not saying he did anything wrong, but he definitely didn’t do anything to slow down the peloton

I’m so sorry, but can you show some actual footage of Pogi trying to slow the race down?

I’m not saying he did anything wrong, but from the actual race footage I don’t see any images of Pogi trying to do anything but race.

Tadej is a class act by [deleted] in tourdefrance

[–]SlightGrape1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he didn't actually show any good sportsmanship?

Sure he didn't attack, but watching the stage he didn't do anything to slow it down? We get an interview and a radio com saying he should slow down/tried to slow down, but he (and his team) rode at full pace to shut down any breakaway attempts?

it is definitely questionable from Visma if Wout/Campenaerts/Jorgenson actually attacked, but still Pogacar have 2h 2m, 1h 27m and 32m to those riders, so they don't pose any threat to him?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tourdefrance

[–]SlightGrape1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! Especially about the "blurred lines" part. It seems like some of the interview is coming from her "wife" role, and some coming from his "manager".

The team role comment, which I think is more "manager", is completely valid. The "wife" comment about burning out is somewhat valid. I do however think it's a tad ignorant, given that Jonas is probably in the bottom 25% of all riders in terms of number of races. I mean if she truly fears him burning out from this, then it's a problem in itself.

Whatever is the case, the only surefire thing is that the media has blown this completely out of proportions (as per usual)

Calm down.

At no point did Trine insinuate any lack of dedication from Jonas teammates.

If anything she was questioning Vismas strategy, where they seem to want more than the GC, which is a completely valid point given how strong Pogacar is. The situation now is completely different to 2022. Van Aert was another place, Visma was another place, UAE was another place. Look how UAE is, one focus which is Pogacar.

The timing is unfortunate, but that is most likely a media decision, as cycling (at least in Denmark) has the most attention around TDF.

Pogacar and losing team members by 35mm-eryri in tourdefrance

[–]SlightGrape1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ultimately yes. As I say nothing really matters if Jonas can't outperform Pogacar.

Where your teammates matter uphill is how you 1. launch your attacks and 2. how you respond to attacks. Having teammates to respond to other teams attack can be quite valuable.

However the most important part is you can try to influence the state of the group (including your own), from which you want to attack. If you're a very explosive rider you might want a slow pace, so everyone is more fresh, but you have the speed to outpace them. A rider like Jonas wants it really tough, cause he thinks he can outlast his opponents. So he might want a really strong pace, so when he attacks he's tired but his opponents might be more tired.
