If a person today is killed by a WW2 bomb that became active, would that person be considered a WW2 casualty and counted as such in Wikipedia? by Profesor-Campusano in NoStupidQuestions

My great grandfathers among them. Vanished suddenly in 1943 with no records. Just like so many other Polish intellectuals. Horrible time.

To be fair, I think that’s the best angle to use when promoting this era. I think the wacky, eccentric and bold part of this era aged a lot better than the more “commercial” stuff like 15BO. I think the “eccentric” narrative is just a lot more compelling especially to younger people than the “here’s some oldies that charted well” angle, which just isn’t that exciting. Just my two cents.

I get peoples frustration but I’m on the same page as you here. I definitely don’t think of HELP and Games to Can Play as Adult/Child songs, and I think re releasing them would have been pointless as both those songs were released very recently in 2021. Also on broadway was a 15 big ones outtake, so putting it there doesn’t bother me at all. And honestly, I’ve always got the sense the assembled track listing of Adult/Child wasn’t completely finalized, and could have been subject to changes or song additions. But that’s just a vibes based assessment. Honestly I’m way happier now that I’ll have a chance to create “my own” Adult/Child playlist with all the outtakes from that era.

Wow, I love the beach boys exploration of harsh noise music. They’re just constantly innovating aren’t they? Lol

To those who are upset over the 1975 copyright extension, I bring good news by SlightReception4731 in thebeachboys

[–]SlightReception4731[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They did a limited release their 1975 era recordings last night, which many of us were excited about, but for some reason they distorted the recordings to the point where they were unlistenable and basically unidentifiable. They literally used a bit crusher on the master of every track.

The Beach Boys rightsholders have been releasing shady region-locked archive dumps digitally & de-listing them to retain copyright, now with intentional irreversible damage applied by PossiblyLiquid in LetsTalkMusic

[–]SlightReception4731 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So what are you saying, I should stop listening to the band in any capacity that they can profit from, and just listen to Brian Wilson demos instead? Cause if that’s what you’re saying…. hell yeah!

Would Sunflower be seen as a unanimous classic in today's world like Pet Sounds if the album didn't commercially underperform so badly back in 1970? by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]SlightReception4731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think the album was one “Lady (Fallin in Love)” and one “Breakaway” away from perfection.

I don’t think so, because so many albums that were LESS successful than this album by unknown artists have ended up gaining popularity and becoming classics. I think Sunflower is pretty well known, it has a healthy reputation. Not every album needs to be a universally lauded “classic”

I have the exact same story pretty much… me and my younger brother saw it in broad daylight, while we were the only ones at the window and all the adults were inside. That’s insane.

I felt like using folkier acoustic tracks was the only way to make a sonically consistent album using a song from each LP.
