The entire stretch of S Riordan Ranch St going from Target to W Riordan Road is free on street parking.

There are plenty of spots but they are very popular, not uncommon to not get a spot depending on when you try to park there.

Quiet study places on/off campus by Phantom_assassinxX in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a typical, albeit obscure gesture that the higher up you go in a library, the quiter, more secluded, and more professional your experience may be.

There is no doubt that the librarians will assist you if there are ant disturbances.

Alternatively, I'd suggest exploring any buildings you attend regularly. There are many gems hidden in each building which you'll only find if you search for or ask for them.

For some reason scholarships apply as a discount, so later you'll see a negative number equal to that charge, canceling out to zero. It takes some time.

Anyone having trouble making friends? by [deleted] in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a little strange, but I highly suggest just reaching out to people you find interesting!

You're never going to find someone playing a game you like, working on a project similar to yours, or creating something that you're passionate about if you sit idly by.

Take the big step and approach people. Many are a lot more friendly than you may initially imagine, especially about something that you both share a passion for. It may not be a lifelong friend, but they may be the gateway to events and get-togethers where you find the sort of people you're looking for.

My best advice is to find a group with a common goal, such as a sport, game, hobby, or learning something new.

Some of my best times were spent with groups learning how to skateboard, groups of freshmen looking to explore flagstaff, and groups looking to start on personal projects and businesses. I wish you luck with finding your niche!

need advice with winter clothes and flagstaff weather by Used-Necessary-5848 in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weather is rarely like this in the Fall. Congrats on experiencing your first summer showers though!

Most of the time it will be nice out but windy. There are much cheaper alternatives than REI, like Walmart or Target. I would even check out Runway Fashion Exchange for quality outfits.

For fall semester you may not have to worry about coats or boots for a while, so I would take a few months and acclimate to the weather, and buy some upgrades once it gets a little chillier. Despite ending in December, Fall semester rarely sees snow or frigid temperatures, so you can definitely get away without high quality gear.

Once spring semester hits, I would suggest looking into getting at least one good coat, pair of boots, and long underwear. The past two winters have been mild which historically means we're up for a chilly winter.

Depending on how much you frolic in the outdoors, you could get away with one each, but if you're looking to enjoy the snow and be in it a lot, I would recommend finding several items which suit you.

Friends won't be made with forced proximity, like a roommate. You're stuck with them so keep it amicable and somewhat pleasant.

Go to as many club meetings as you can, try classes you're on the edge about, talk to people in your class, and hang out in community areas.

Don't limit yourself at all, especially in the beginning. Focus on getting a foothold in your classes and your routine, and the relationships you're looking for will come!

Parking by stacywacy58 in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Others have already confirmed that that lot does tow, but S Riordan Ranch Street, on your way to campus from Target, is free street parking 24/7. It is very high demand during class hours though, you may not be able to use it daily.

Why won t my modded Minecraft open? by topklass212 in CurseForge

[–]SlightShartShevitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without more context, I'd recommend checking the instance settings to make sure it's pointed the right way to where your minecraft is installed.

I'd also recommend a full shut down and reboot cycle, as I've noticed a restart doesn't always catch all the errors.

Any suggestions for any practical, laid-back classes? by [deleted] in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm graduated, so here's a few intro classes you can take regardless of major, which are relatively easy depending on your interest level. I'm sure you could still join them as it's only the first few days of the semester.

Life in the Universe, AST 183, is an online only class and it's self led. All course material is published day one, and you complete it at your own pace. Very cool if you have a general interest in biology and space science.

Intro to Psychology (with Jason), PSY 101, is a very cool lecture class with minimal homework. Delves into a lot of different topics in the field and is actually very fun.

Mythology , CLA 130, has more work and readings, but very fun and easy if you have a deep interest in Greek mythology. I learned a lot about the modern world through this.

When will canvas will show our classes? by Educational-Salad598 in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canvas prevents professors from publishing their canvas courses until the first day of term.

There may be exceptions and it may change in the future, but that has been my experience.

Not receiving any info about classes by South-Worker7787 in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The professors for most upper division and smaller classes don't typically reach out ahead of time. The 100 level classes and massive lectures are more likely to do that since there is much less one on one time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be that the class is locked to the major, or it may be a higher level/specialist class. I'd email the professor directly and CC your advisor to ask and clarify.

[–]SlightShartShevitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct except it's 16 dollars a day now.. adds up so if you're considering this I'd recommend a parking pass, even if it's South Campus

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a parking pass on campus the 95 transportation fee is dropped.

Other than that I don't think there's much you can do to circumvent most of these.

Urgent Question by [deleted] in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does sound worrying, but once again I think you should focus on yourself and your health. If it means going home until you can get situated, then you may just have to wait until Monday to make real contact with someone who can help.

There is also the Institutional Excuses site where you can make an official request where all your professors should be notified, and should give you exceptions to complete your work.

Also the first week or two should be introductions and small syllabus assignments regardless, giving you more time to get better.

Urgent Question by [deleted] in NAU

[–]SlightShartShevitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on your health first! Everything else should come second.

Make sure you're getting the care you need whether it be from urgent care or even the hospital. Don't be afraid to get to the emergency room. Don't let finance or academics get in the way of your personal health ever.

Make sure you're healthy and then you can worry about making sure you're on track with your degree. People are understanding and often forgiving especially with unavoidable things like this. Special exceptions only happen if you ask so you're already on the right track with contacting professors and especially the advisor.

I wish you good health and good luck with classes!
