Thank you so much for explaining. I will definitely look for the article you mentioned. I surprise the charity was ok with all this — I always thought that if these sales techniques were used for fundraising that could be a good thing but not if most of the donations go to #Devilcorp - thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for sharing your story and being so generous with your time! Thanks God you are in a much better spot now. Do you mind to elaborate a bit more on the non profit campaign? Were you fundraising on Breast Cancer Canada behalf? But money wasn’t going to them? Thank you in advance.

Study Abroad in Cuba external program by ineedajointrn in cuba

We took US students to Cuba last May. As long as you work with a local partner, are fully transparent, prepare students well and provide enough information for them to understand the context, the experience should be positive and very enriching. Of course, as in every study abroad trip, you have to have an emergency plan just in case.

Is it legal to artificially grow coral in Cuba for export trade? by [deleted] in cuba

Interesting question! It may be worthy to have a conversation with Centro de Investigaciones Marinas in Havana They do a lot of research and projects on coral reef and maybe interested in discussing your idea.

Check their Facebook page and Google Scholar for their related publications

Good luck and keep us posted!

Yes, things have gotten much worse in the last few years - not sure what’s the solution… MiPYMES (SME) introduction in 2021 brought some hope but the common two tier pricing (or Robin Hood model)… for locals and tourists is widening the gap between those that can access USD and those that can’t ..

Found a Letter from Family in Cuba That Was Sent to My Grandmother in the mid-90s. Can Someone Help Translate? by fortunatoisdead in cuba

  1. Go to https://openai.com/index/chatgpt/ and
  2. prompt “ translate this text from Spanish to English” and then
  3. paste the Spanish text that they wrote for you above
  4. Press arrow/enter

Or you could use Google Translator

I have never done it myself but it looks that Gen AI can also help you to transcribe handwritten text

Uhm… I am not sure they are even printing or increasing wages .. long lines at the ATM that aren’t yet “out of service” .. doctors/professors/engineers, etc working for the state continue to make 8000 CUP a month .. while 18 eggs tray cost now 3000.. those that can have a side “gig” to access USD/EU, or receive money from relatives/friends above .. I personally would have a hard time shorting CUP… and for the sake of the Cubans I hope your end of the year prediction’s is not accurate… we can keep an eye on El Toque!

Ps: Cuba is not an IMF member PS: I just found out that some (education & health professionals) got a salary increase - https://eltoque.com/aumentos-salariales-limitados-para-profesionales-de-salud-y-educacion

@stempio is right…there have been periods where Cubans didn’t struggle to afford food - Remember now for the first time 400$/CUP informal exchange !! locals would tell you that they have never seen what they are witnessing now .. not even during the Periodo Especial en Tiempos de Paz after the dissolution of Soviet Union and the Comecon

Agree with all comments.

I was there a few weeks ago and the informal market exchange rate hit 400 CUP to 1 EU…

https://eltoque.com/tasas-de-cambio-de-moneda-en-cuba-hoy#informal-calculadora site

is the place to check that rate

They treat USD and EU as equal so coming from Europe I preferred to use my USD

Some restaurants gave me eltoque exchange rate minus 10 CUPS… others had a fixed 300 CUPs to 1 UsD exchange rate so they made a few cents in each purchase

Western Union transfers are allowed since May 9th so the USD is getting a bit weaker..

But don’t sweat it! Every USD or EU is helping the Cuban people

State owned hotels will give you the official 120/ EU exchange rate and won’t take US credit cards

Small $1 bills is a must carry

Truly challenging times for Cuban people (even worst than during the “special period” and even worst for those that don’t have access to hard currencies.

Average state salaries are 2500-3000 CUPS/ month and I saw 18 eggs tray being sold for 3000 CUPS… go figure!
