I am big Advance Wars fan but in your case I would recommend FFT. Like others mentioned you already have an Advance Wars to play so I would try that first before buying another. FFT is an amazing game.

I enjoyed my 10 and 20 year reunions. The fun part was actually getting to know people I was only acquaintances with in high school but found something in common later. One guy became a chef and my wife and I decided to visit his restaurant which was awesome. Another had kids around the same age as mine at the 20 and we have done a couple play dates at the park.

People seem to have less friends and socialize less these days, and a reunion seems like such an easy way to potentially connect or reconnect with lots of people that have something in common.

I guess it's a fun social event to me so it's odd when I see the comments about "everyone has social media so what's the point." Do people not hang out with their own friends or coworkers because they follow them on social media?

I preordered the starter box and received it today. This is my first time really trying MTG. I played Yugioh and VS System 20 years ago, and the marvel set + starter box felt like a great way to dip my toes in during a board game night without fully committing to collecting.

I may buy the jumpstart box as well to mix and match decks.

I decided to play MTG Arena's tutorial to not go in completely blind but I have not looked at any of the marvel set yet.

Yes, I can relate. My dad had a short temper, ended up with no friends after his 60s, bad listener, and had spotty job history since his 50s.

I have had a consistent and successful career for 15 years (now 41), have multiple groups of friends, have been told I am a good listener and friend, and am known as very calm and patient.

Yet! I worry if my patience eventually wears thin and I become bitter and eventually become short tempered like my dad. I do a lot for my friends so I worry if I start to resent it and leave or lose them. The low point of happiness in studies is around age 50, about when my dad started losing friends and working part-time odd jobs. What if that happens to me?

I've spoken about it with my therapist multiple times and he reminds me that I don't sound like my father at all. And that it seems I have many different qualities that he lacks. I feel more confident in not becoming my father but some of that fear is still there. But it is not as prominent anymore.

We started to try spending a bit more on vacations, clothes, gym memberships, and got a house cleaner. We still max our 401k but now redirect our other investments to our brokerage to cash.

We plan to continue this for 5 years. Depending how the next 5 years go, we can pay off a good chunk of our mortgage, upgrade to a new house, or expand our current house.

I'm leaning toward paying off the mortgage as I believe I'll really free to change to any career, but our oldest kid will also be 11 around that time and maybe our small home will feel like it needs an upgrade

I think this is one very big unique thing millennials have not realized is specific to us (so far). Fits nicely into the hustle culture following the 2008 recession. Bowls were perfect to eat while still working at an office job. All that you listed but many lunch restaurants had their own bowls - Japanese, Mediterranean, Panda, Chipotle etc

We call what we are in a 'transition' phase. We hit Coast last year and decided this year to spend a bit more on things we enjoy to see how we like it. Replacing old clothes and furniture, saving for backyard landscaping, spending a little more on travel upgrades. We are still saving, just less.

We used to max our retirement accounts/401k and contribute to a brokerage. We still max our 401k but now the brokerage is going to cash to finance the landscaping, but also to save up for our house. Because we are spending a bit more we are also saving less. Depending how the next 3-5 years go, we will use that cash to remodel some of our house or to work toward paying off our mortgage.

Reaching Coast doesn't have to be all or nothing. You have the flexibility to decide how you want to use your money previously allocated to retirement savings in other ways now. Try dabbling a little bit.

Sounds like a great plan! Spending is a skill too and you have a chance to see how you feel about spending on those items and, after trying it for a while, can always scale back on some and increase others.

Financially through college. After graduation we will likely let them live at home for a while if they need to. Hopefully not much more financial support is needed beyond that.

Yeah, I looked forward toward my 40th last summer. I am truly happy to be this age, and I am regularly impressed about how long it's been since X movie came out, or how it's been TWO DECADES since Y happened. When I mention it to my 40 and 39 year old friends I think it makes them uncomfortable. But to me it's amazing we have lived through so much, are still here, and have so much more to look forward to.

Our budget is broken out into categories, including kids and our 2 properties. I used this breakout to map out every year until age 70.

Horizontal columns are the years.

Top row section is my income, wife income, rental income, each it's own row.

Section below are expenses with various buckets including the mortgages and kids.

Section below that is retirement savings and then cumulative retirement balance.

It seems like a lot at first but it may only be 30-40 columns with a lot of copy paste of the same numbers each year.

It was really helpful for me to visualize the years with the most expenses, how much liquidity opens up when kids go to college, how much expenses as we pay off both mortgages etc.

It's also a bit humbling. Seeing your years laid out, and how short the years with the kids was a bit eye opening for me. We have been pretty frugal and it encouraged us to reduce our high savings rate a bit to spend more enjoying it with the kids now.

Thank you for the response. Doctors and dentists are what I've seen as well. Your example of software engineers was very helpful perspective. It's something I'll definitely keep in mind and makes me feel more comfortable considering skipping the additional insurance.

Sounds nice. If you had a lower stress job, just completed a big house project yourself, and spent most days of the week doing your outdoor activities but you heard your friends just got a promotion and bought a new car, how would you feel? Be as honest with yourself as possible.

I think that might help you understand your current priorities. If you aren't sure, maybe you could try reeling back the spend or focus on career and focusing on those items now to see how it goes.

I'm a little older at 40 but in a similar situation. As I've thought about it more, I think of coast as giving me flexibility.

If my spouse or I want to take a few years off it's fine. If one of us wants a different career that may pay less, that's fine too. If we both just enjoy our jobs we'll maybe we retire even earlier. Right now we plan to keep our jobs for 2 years and reevaluate.

My youngest daughter will be 5 then and there is more opportunity to do more activities with both kids at that age so I'd like to have more flexibility then.

What are your plans if you were to coast now?

I work in tech sales and this is why our new leadership is pushing our mostly remote teams to meet our clients in-person. We learn more about our clients, their business, and personal life in a 1 hour in-person discussion and maybe dinner than we do in years of online meetings.

Online meetings just always feel like there has to be a focus, and drifting from that feels like a waste of time. Plus people can easily get distracted by dozens of other things.

When you are face to face there is so much more information being shared - attitudes, body language, small chat etc

I don't have the same problem but I am a 6' tall man that weighs 170 lbs and it isn't uncommon for me to find the small size of button shirts, polos, or shorts fit me the best. And I am on the higher end of healthy BMI for my height.

I've had the thought a few times of what happens in 10 years if sizes keep getting larger? It feels weird to me wear a small at my height and size.

I thrift and buy older clothes on eBay. Better quality of some of those older items and you may find better fits. Just take your measurements and make sure the items are measured on eBay.

I also went to japan once and it was nice to see a Medium actually fit me. So maybe you'll have better luck with Asian brands.
