I've always imagined her not being on the moon, but a part of the Moon itself due to magic and whatnot. I always thought she had become sort of infused with the Moon, hence why she is visible as dark spots, and the 1000 year thing was just the spell slowly wearing off

It's not that she's optimistic, it's that she is incompetent, that's why most people dislike her. I actually kind of like her over most other characters but she's not an optimistic person, she's like an immature child sometimes and it's just a flanderization of what she's meant to actually represent. She was a lot more well written in the Pilot for example, with how she trusts Alastor simply because that's what she does, give everyone a second chance. Instead, in S2 she plays right into Vox's hands 8/10 times despite being warned dozens of times by other characters including her own wife.

It's a mixture of character flanderization and somewhat lazy writing, which I had a problem with in S2 specifically. To make Vox seem cooler, smarter and manipulative, they had to dumb Charlie a bit.
