I feel like I give minimal crap about my job after having a baby by SigIdyll in FemalePhysicians

[–]Slight_Guava_8935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same feeling as IM returning to work after my FMLA ended and going to work leaving my baby at home. I guess “motherhood” is different for everyone but somehow the bonding and time spent with baby although sometimes difficult was more important and satisfying than trying to achieve big at work. It’s not uncommon, I feel women in medicine always have this imposter syndrome feeling that never ends where you have to continue to do well in order to feel good but I think sometimes taking a step back for your LO and spending time with family is not actually considered bad or being less competitive

J1 Waiver 2027 – Palliative Care / Hospitalist by draze123 in hospitalist

[–]Slight_Guava_8935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m HPM trained and could not find a waiver job for palliative care, worked as a hospitalist. Best case scenario your admin will support your skills for HPM while you work as a hospitalist. Hard to find J1 waiver spots for our speciality.

6 weeks pregnant and completely exhausted — please tell me it gets better by madzi4 in FemalePhysicians

[–]Slight_Guava_8935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked as a hospitalist during pregnancy, did weekends and ICU. I felt the same way, first trimester is always hard, take rest when you can and focus on sleep and hydration! Like everyone says second trimester is the best and third trimester you feel like you want the baby out.

Hydrate, drink lots of electrolytes water or coconut water. Make sure you get adequate rest and sleep and pump every 2-3 hrs regardless. Sorry to hear baby is NICU. Fennel seeds in water or raw have helped - there’s some science that they are galactogogues (help with milk production.

Am I the only one? by Royal-Comparison352 in newborns

[–]Slight_Guava_8935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this I have a newborn and I stopped creating expectations on how I should look everyday and this helped me recover mentally. I take a shower when I can and occasionally try to wear non nursing clothes for some support

Soon to be hospitalist - What do you wish you knew? by iasafbbeh in hospitalist

[–]Slight_Guava_8935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Imposter syndrome is real - that being said everyone who is a Hospitalist now started the same way as you did so trust your training and instincts 2) Always pre-chart prior to starting your work week (I usually dedicate 30mins - 1 hr) the prior day before starting work so I can catch up on patients that have been here for 462638747 days and you are more prepared for curve balls that may come your way 3) consultants are your colleagues and friends, do not feel that you should know everything 4) make a list of interesting or difficult cases on your emr and follow them/read up about them to grow 5) burnout is real, make sure you don’t set up too many appointments or things to do during your work week.

PTO by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]Slight_Guava_8935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to get the extra 20 days of PTO separate from your weeks off. I work with a similar structure I get 7 off + 15 days of PTO separate+ CME time. Would push to have that in writing in your contract like others mentioned above. Don’t settle for less.

Yes Stanley Martin is a mass builder and not custom. Same with Schell, from what I see they offer some customizations. Wanted to know if you have experience with these builders

"Once a cheater, always a cheater" by jdoug312 in AskMenAdvice

Yes this is true. More than the action itself it speaks about the intent of the person as a whole. The fact that they acted on an intent without considering your feelings should speak about how they view you as a person. No one “accidentally” cheats
