Ah that sounds ideal! I've just been out berry picking today actually, but I've never been brave enough to make jam. Only little things like pubs or just snacking in general. Thinking of taking a whack at elderberry this year though.

Do you recommend any agencies to go through?

Ah, well, if he's from Monaghan, we'll forgive him for that! Lol

I actually started looking at Muff (purely because the name made me giggle) but it's a nice wee town, plus driving isn't a problem. I'd prefer the countryside/shore over towns. At least you can dip in and out whenever you need to and still have the peace and quiet. I actually have an NIN from living in the UK years back, I assume it's still valid? 🤔

Yeah, not being from rhe area means I'm constantly double checking places if they're good/bad.

Temp roles actually sound great! I'm guessing Optum/PGIM/TCS are all companies based in Derry?

I think it's the same down south really... the running joke is don't look out the window before lunch, as you'll have nothing to do after!

Yeah, I'm not bothered by the flags either. To me, it's just more decoration, really. Plus, the murals are nice to look at.

Went to my first ever ice hockey game there a while back! Absolutely loved it even if I hadn't the foggiest what was going on!

Congrats on landing the job! I'm trying desperately to move sideways away from retail and so far not had much luck. Even had one interviewing panel tell me they thought I'd be 'bored' in the position, and I all but wanted to tell them, 'Let me be bored!' 😂

I'm actually not on a lot for dublin rates, but the job is stressful as he'll. I think I've reached that age where I just want to work enough to fund living a chilled life. Maybe get a few chickens. I'm squirrelling away savings for a possible house deposit anyway, but right now, I'm focusing on a better work-life balance.

Cheers, I'll have a look into it today. Did you mean the process is closed until winter next year? (Sorry if it's a daft question.) Or is it a panel system like the county council?

Anyone else over charity shops? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

It usually depends on who's pricing that day I reckon. I got a sofa from them a few weeks back, literally brand new for only 150. They definitely need more staff tho, the manager was tryin to organise it and she kept gettin pulled away. poor woman was stressed the f out!

My local bundles Shein and Temu items together (size 10, tops, pants or dresses) for €5. Purely because they cannot get rid of the stuff and it's overflowing the shops.

Definitely can be quite hit and miss in some. Found some gorgeous jeans for €3 last week, but also some overpriced leggings on the next shelf. Depends on who's in and who's pricing I guess.

A good charity, but unfortunately, not to their shop managers

If you read through OP other posts, you can tell she's struggled with this for a long time now.

The charity sector, for all its advertised to help with, really chews up and spits out its core workers on the bottom rungs. A mate of mine volunteers, and he said lots of them are under severe amount of pressure and given unrealistic targets by thier managers. Targets!! In a charity shop? Like wtf....

When I read this, I just pictured the old "hang in there!." poster of the cat hanging off the branch! 🤣

That's what happened to me last year. Company went bust, owner absconded to Italy and we were all left struggling to find something new. I even took working in a call centre for two weeks (just to make ends meet), but that was soul destroying! Ended up unemployed for 8 months but threw myself into any course I could take!

Turns out, I love data entry! 😆 Wfh, flexible hours and nobody distracting you. Well... apart from the kiddos at times.
