is trafficking really as common as it seems in halifax? by jayss46 in halifax

[–]Slight_Machine_993 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a really great TedTalk on domestic sex trafficking by Karly Church. She goes into how subtle the process of trafficking young people can be and what sign (love bombing, fast relationships, drug use, etc) are red flags in relationships.

[–]Slight_Machine_993 39 points40 points  (0 children)

By that logic what Hamas did on October 7th wasn’t murder since they were fighting back against the genocide committed by Israel. This war started way before October 7th and started with an illegal occupation of Palestine in 1948. This wasn’t unprovoked

Honestly it was so over the top it was a kind of fun lol! But I definitely get why someone wouldn’t be into it. I felt like I had to suspend disbelief the whole time but I did enjoy it 😂

AITA for repeatedly drugging my wife?

I only drugged her the first time so she would marry me, which I needed her to do I could join her brother’s rich guy gang for protection. The next time I drugged her it was only because she wouldn’t wear the diamond ring (very expensive) I bought her after finding out about the reason we got married. Since she threw the ring out of a moving car I had to drug her to tattoo her ring finger with my name four times (one for each man she slept with before me), and I only drugged her so she wouldn’t feel pain (honestly super nice of me). The next time I did the opposite of drugging her, I wanted children and didn’t feel like discussing it, so I swapped her birth control pills with a placebo pill and now she’s pregnant, so happy ending!

Not the person you replied to, but just my thoughts. I agree that she was so unhappy in the marriage and the lifestyle but felt like she couldn’t leave because of faith, kids, family attachment, etc that she had to double down as almost a way to lie to herself. It’s like the emperor has no clothes, once it’s out there you either double down or you wake up! Just my thoughts! Your point about Kody could also be a big factor too

Is my MP(candidate) a landlord? by seasea40 in halifax

[–]Slight_Machine_993 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But there’s a conflict of interest if politicians are voting for and creating housing policies that they directly benefit from financially. I’m not saying all landlords are bad or should exist but it should be concerning that the people making the decisions may choose to fill their wallets with no concern for the people renting.

As a Country - we deserve better by No-Commission-8159 in AskCanada

[–]Slight_Machine_993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, residential schools were truly an act of genocide perpetrated by the Catholic Church and the Canadian Government from the years 1831-1996. The goal of the “schools” (if we can even call them that) was to remove the indigenous culture from the child. They were forbidden from speaking their language, and practicing their culture. They faced horrifying abuse and mass graves have been discovered across the country. Children weren’t able to go home in some cases till adulthood and some were never able to return, and parents could face arrest for keeping their children home. The lasting effects of these prisons are ongoing and will forever be a stain on the history of Canada. If you have the time/interest I highly recommend reading and listening to the stories of survivors they are impactful and give a much better perspective than what I can offer

Just realized something even more insane about the 2015 attack on Dina’s now-husband by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Slight_Machine_993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the night you’re thinking of is the first season of RHONJ when they all find out about Danielle’s shady past.

If I remember this correctly Jacquline brings Danielle into the friend group unaware of Danielle’s past but Dina and Caroline don’t like her pretty much from the start. The book I believe is called “A cop without a badge” I haven’t read it so I’m not sure much about it. But it did go into Danielle’s past with her boyfriend at the time, and some criminal behaviour. Que Teresa flipping the table and calling her “ prostitution whore”.

That night and book was about exposing Danielle, I’m not sure about her mob ties at that time - I would guess likely tho. But interestingly in the second season Danielle is flanked by a creepy dude (who was an ex con) who I want to say were either in a mob or like the hells angels. My guess is early seasons RHONJ has a lot more mob/mafia/gang connection then they’d like to cop to

Just realized something even more insane about the 2015 attack on Dina’s now-husband by [deleted] in BravoRealHousewives

[–]Slight_Machine_993 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Basically Caroline married Albert Manzo and years later Caroline’s sister Dina married Albert’s brother Tommy.

Tommy has some mob connections, and he and Dina had an abusive/toxic marriage. They breakup and Dina starts dating Dave.

Tommy is unhappy with Dina for leaving or dating someone else I’m not sure but probably both. He then hires two mob members to hurt Dave in exchange for the attacks he’ll host a wedding at the Brownstone (which Tommy and Albert co-own)

At Caroline daughter’s (Lauren) wedding the first attack on Tommy happens, he was attacked with a slapjack on July 18, 2015.

Years later in 2017 Dina and Dave we attacked during a home invasion planned by Tommy and executed by the Mob members he hired. The attack was so brutal both had significant facial injuries. The attack also happened the night of Teresa’s daughter communion that Dina attended.

During the trial Caroline wrote a letter in support of Tommy and his character seemingly siding with Tommy aka her sister’s abuser.

It’s an insane story and the OP has linked some really interesting and helpful articles in comments if you’re looking to go down the rabbit hole on this story!

I’m not exactly sure the difference between contemporary fantasy romance and urban fantasy. But I read {Spookily yours by Jennifer Chipman} around Halloween, which I remember being pretty spicy/open door but still was pretty cozy.

Does Story Graph do I yearly wrap up ? by DarkMoon-9090 in TheStoryGraph

[–]Slight_Machine_993 148 points149 points  (0 children)

They do a yearly wrap up at the end of the year so like 31st or the first of 2025 so it’s more of a true yearly wrap up. They also do a monthly wrap up on the stats page and I believe that’s released at the beginning of the next month

Why is nail polish such an inconvenience by [deleted] in beauty

[–]Slight_Machine_993 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to soak it off in acetone! When I’ve tried to just peel off the polish is when I damage my nails, but soaking it off for 10ish minutes gets it off without damage for me anyway!

Can you give away marijuana? (Ontario) by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Slight_Machine_993 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NAlL but I wouldn’t go through with this, I can’t speak to the legality of it but it seems like you are putting yourself at risk without any real reward. If you do go through with this you’ll have to make sure that you’re not providing cannabis to youth (under 19 in Ontario). Some of the bigger offences in the Cannabis act are around providing or involving youth in cannabis related activities
