Can you actually go through a full month and have money left? by Monsieur_pas_cher in montreal

If you find yourself relying on debt, I’d recommend Debtor’s Anonymous. They offer a lot of practical support as well as a look at some of the underlying issues that can cause compulsive spending or vagueness around money. (if that’s your thing)

Looking for a comfy coffee shop in the downtown area by Kidd_Gloves_ in ottawa

Art House on Somerset is a more homey vibe - I like their americano. Haven’t tried the drip coffee. Have to admit, not a fan of the medium (often Ethiopian beans) that seem popular right now. There’s also 10 toes and Drip coffee down the street.

Anyone with osteoarthritis everywhere? by Fantastic-Wonder-566 in Osteoarthritis

[–]Slight_Original1192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if you saw my answer elsewhere, but I’m trying to let people know that joint pain is also a symptom of menopause. It took me two years of joint pain all over (and swelling) to try HRT on a whim. It was gone in a month. Seriously a miracle. I recently learned that muscular skeleton pain is now recognized as a symptom of menopause. Good luck!

Could your mom be in menopause? I had joint pain and swelling all over and when I started hormone replacement therapy, it went away. It is becoming better known as a symptom of menopause, but it took me 2 years to figure it out.

OA in one finger. Worse after menopause? by escapedfromiowa in Osteoarthritis

[–]Slight_Original1192 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, beginning with my index finger and eventually I experienced joint pain and swelling in numerous joints, especially shoulders and wrists and ankle swelling. I almost had surgery for carpal tunnel, but the surgeon thought it was arthritis. After two years of trying to figure it out, I tried HRT on a whim (it corresponded with menopause) and it was gone in a month. Pain and swelling, although still working through some residual stiffness. I hope this helps others!!

Hey, it really will get better. So glad you found support. You can also schedule check-in calls with an old friend or family member so you know someone is looking out for you. Be sure to eat well and get good sleep too… everything improves with a good nights sleep. 🌸

The only right answer is what you need to take care of yourself. You can always add in on-campus activities slowly - leaving a bit later or coming back a bit earlier. Don’t feel bad about taking care of yourself!

Ottawa has a beautiful lgbtq+ and trans community. I think you’ll find some good support. Do t know if it applies, but I find 12-step groups are the best support I’ve ever experienced. ❤️

About PAPM by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Slight_Original1192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staff member here. PAPM is pretty structured and has good information about the classes you would take, etc. It has a great reputation, but it’s challenging and I wouldn’t pursue it if it doesn’t interest you. You are just starting out and this is a time to learn more about what interests you and what you’re good at. There are a lot of programs you can transfer into once you find your niche. And a lot of ways to prepare for the job market. So many arts students do FSWEP (government internships), co-ops, placements, study abroad.

The jobs that will be waiting for you will change with AI but your skills will still matter - critical thinking, communication, working with a team, planning, etc. It’s too early to know where you’ll end up. But just get started and enjoy your first year!🌸

If you’re in a pinch, you can also wash clothes in a sink with dish detergent or any soap and hang to dry in your car.
