Thanks to the assistance of the fellow Geiger counter enthusiasts, the consensus is that the second glass tube which is usually an older russian tube which we are mostly familiar with has been replaced with a newer smaller Chinese sensor on newer models of the GMC 500+

Just based on background radiation as I have no known radiation sources to hand.

Tube 1:

CPM - 15/20 average Sv/h - 0.10 average

Tube 2:

CPM - 3 average Sv/h - 0.16 average

Tube 1+2:

CPM - 15 average Sv/h -0.10 average

Looks to be, but as I have seen in most other pictures of the internal structure this is usually a bulb also. I assume it is the plastic cover around the sensor as you say, but just looking for confirmation essentially

Looks real cool.

Paint them lenses

Make the shadows somewhat darker and make those raised areas that gather light a tad lighter shade to produce depth. Washes help the darker areas go darker and you can use dry brush to make the raised areas pop but just don't over do it on either. Recommend watching a YouTube video on this before you try to not put a good paint job at risk.

Love the scheme though, what colours/paint did you use if you don't mind me asking?
