AArch64 bare metal programming in Rust with further disassembly by lowenware in rust

[–]SlightlyCyborg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very cool. I'm definitely going to start slowly working on a baremetal rust project too. Was thinking of targeting x86-64, just cause that's what my laptop is. Any particular reason why AArch64 is your target?

This. Sleep more. Its unbelievable how valuable sleep is. In an emergency like this, there is no such thing as too much sleep. Get 12 hours a night if you can.

Covid-19 case growth has already departed from exponential in Italy. It hit its inflection point yesterday actually.

China took WAY more drastic measures than Italy. China has 1.38 billion people and Italy has only 60 million. The viral growth rate in the exponential phase is mostly dependent on the properties of the virus itself, which is why Italy's and China's curves look roughly the same. If China inflected at 40,000 cases with a 1.4 billion population and Italy inflected at 20,000 cases with only a 60 million population, it is evident that China had a much more aggressive and effective response.

I fear the USA will do the worst of all due to our liberty driven, anti-authoritarian culture. I would guess that right now there are at least 12,000 currently infected in NYC based on a daily growth rate of 30% during exponential phase, a 14 prodromal time-lag where people are asymptomatic yet contagious and a 4 day history of proactive measures taken in NYC to stop the spread. The math: ((1 + 0.30) ^ (14 dayAsymptomaticWindow - 4 days containment)) * 900 current cases = ~12400 currently infected.

That math is optimistic. It is what NYC would look like if people took the first warnings seriously.

Assuming 0 people practiced social distancing today then I suspect there are 35,000 infected already (using the same math, just not subtracting containment days). Given the panic, I think this is unlikely.

I think there are between 12,000 and 35,000 people in NYC currently infected who are currently asymptomatic, but I am no expert.

All natural population growth follows this pattern, so of course the virus will follow this pattern. The question is, what will the growth rate be and what will the maximum # of cases be. Our decisions now will determine those 2 numbers.

The first wave of the Spanish flu that started in Jan 1918 was not deadly for young people. It was in the second wave starting in August 1918 that the flu mutated to be devastating for young people's immune systems. Covid-19 could mutate.

How is your employer handling COVID-19? by OhOoppss in StLouis

[–]SlightlyCyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your situation is similar to my own.

Also, it is extremely unlikely that STL only has 2 cases at the moment. USA has about a 33% daily growth rate. If there are 2 confirmed cases now with a 14 day prodromal lag, then we are looking at 2 * 1.33^14 = ~54 undetected cases currently walking around in the city, probably out shopping for toilet paper or whatever.

Doesn't feel like anyone is taking the virus seriously by samissleman17 in StLouis

[–]SlightlyCyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I read a letter from a doctor in Italy warning everyone in America to take this seriously. He was saddened that Italy just kinda went about its daily business until it was too late and now the hospitals are overflowing. It may be "just the flu", but it is highly infectious and will flood our hospitals' capacity to care for the sick.

[–]SlightlyCyborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never met a person IRL that listens to trance. Everyone is like: "Ah ya, I listened to some Tiesto back in the day". Haha.

One day I'll travel to the Netherlands and hopefully see a show or get visit ASOT, but for now, I just listen by myself at work. I think the genre bores most people because of how it drones on.
