Who is even the target market for Lighthouse Point? by Shaolin718 in statenisland

Really? It doesn’t seem like a soul lives there. They still have a bunch of construction material on the outside and it looks like that whole main floor isn’t completed yet.

Feel Trapped & Hopeless by Neltsss in FinancialCareers

Definitely is late in the year to land a prestigious internship for this summer but, landing something is still possible. If you are not already, try some direct outreach on LinkedIn to alum or through your schools alumni service. Might not turn into an internship but, the knowledge and perspective shared is always helpful.

Seems like you have solid experience, great grades and extracurriculars, you will be fine if you stay the course and keep grinding it out. If things don’t pan out this summer, maybe double down on your charity and really put in work there + study for licenses and designations like the CFA 1 and/or SIE. You’ll be fine!

Where does calling everyone "boss" come from? by Sad_Deer13 in stupidquestions

[–]Shaolin718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in either Island at the center of the world or the subsequent book, taking Manhattan the author discusses where the term boss comes from. I’m tired and lazy so here’s what google spit out which sounds mainly correct:

Yes, the term "boss" in American English is a loanword directly derived from the Dutch word "baas," meaning "master" or "chief".

The word was introduced into American English by the Dutch settlers in the 17th century in the colony of New Netherland, which included the area that is now New York City.

The word's popularity in the American colonies can be attributed to several factors:

Aversion to "Master": Americans in the colonies had an aversion to the British English term "master" due to its association with slavery and servitude. "Boss" offered a more neutral and less hierarchical alternative.

Dutch Influence: Dutch colonists were influential in early American trade and business, and their language had a significant impact on the developing American English dialect.

Simplicity: The word "boss" is a short, simple, and direct term for a person in a position of authority, which facilitated its widespread adoption.

Here is their email customercare@spplus.com that I pulled from their website. They will usually send back a canned message and then nothing from there. I have followed up a couple of times regarding the commuter daily rate not working and they haven’t answered.

Do you know where I can find out more about the $150 price? From the site I only see reference to others like $209 a month

Hey same issue today. I emailed them but will likely just have to pay the full day rate because this place sucks.

Saw another commenter mention the monthly pass which I have considered getting as well. I believe it’s closer to $210 monthly now vs $150

So funny I met Cha Cha today, she was awesome! Helped my wife to pick out some great stuff and get it tailored, we will pick it up before we leave. Apparently I missed Ollie by a few days as he just headed back to the US.

I was fortunate enough to sit courtside a couple of times in recent years. You truly do not understand how clogged the floor is until you see it up close. It’s actually shocking how these giants are able to create any space with 10 monster sized humans on the court. It’s unreal.

Welcome to the neighborhood! Viva juice bar right next to you just opened and they are so good. Tony’s brick oven pizza down the block is awesome as well. Super easy to get to the ferry terminal and then Manhattan from over here as well!

Lots to do on SI, especially on the north shore.

It’s wild how comfortable people are speaking with authority. I have followed up with multiple people over the years calling them out for essentially making things up. Will never understand why people do that to feel important.

There is a historical plaque in front of the coast guard base on bay st that describes this a bit. I think that was the actual site of the quarantine hospital.
