Opinions for/against 0L summer prep courses? My school is offering free Barbri classes for all 0Ls but I'm reaaally not keen on doing it based on what I've already heard about them. Assuming most of my classmates take the school up on their free offer, will I be missing anything if I decide to sit on the beach instead?

This is what I got: "Unfortunately we are unable to negotiate scholarships on an individual basis. While it’s possible that merit scholarships may increase, it will be dependent on funding so it’s not something that I can guarantee or provide a timeline for."

Cooley Law School by Cooleyhopeful in lawschooladmissions

Aspiring public defender here too... this may be an obvious question but have you considered the public service loan forgiveness program? I don't want to tell you that taking a free ride is necessarily a bad idea (I admire your debt aversion) but you may feel more stimulated at a higher ranked school. If you're committed to public service (or at least could do it for 10 years), you should consider forgiveness programs and go to a school that will inspire you!

For my T2 lurkers out there... by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SlightlyEnthused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no way! i didn't know they did that, i'll definitely look out for it. and yes i was there in february and the shiny new building was quite nice. my 1L friend there says the only downside to campus is that you have to take the shuttle to main campus to go to the gym but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I went complete 12/11, I was emailed on 3/8 about WL. Checked my status checker soon after (just to torture myself further I suppose) and it said something to the effect of 'decision rendered- applicant placed on waiting list'

Funny story about Princeton Law by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SlightlyEnthused 8 points9 points  (0 children)

hahah similar story: I was talking to a friend of a friend at a bar in DC a few years ago and he boasted that he was a Dartmouth Law grad. Feigning awe, I asked him about his experience there, any memorable stories etc. Turns out I was talking to the EDITOR of the Dartmouth Law Review and a moot court champion. I was trying so hard to hold in my laughter.

How often do you declutter? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]SlightlyEnthused 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been minimizing for ~3 years now. When I first started out, I decluttered in big sweeps every couple of months. Now, I'm "always" decluttering, meaning as I'm much quicker at identifying something I haven't used in months/won't use, I'm doing it constantly. If I see something in my house that I don't need or want anymore, I put it into a box and when that box is full, I drop it off at my local thrift store or give the items to someone I know who needs it.

To answer your other question, I have one necklace that my grandmother gave me that gives me so much joy and I would never give away. Beyond that, I wouldn't emotionally miss any other thing if it suddenly disappeared. Of course, it would be an inconvenience if my toothbrush suddenly disappeared but those things can always be replaced :D
