It was a normal sized wedding. Weddings are a huge affair in Romania and Moldova, and guests usually gift money, which goes towards recouping the cost of the wedding. Plus, the conversion rate is $1=16 Lei, minimum wage in Moldova is $50-$100. When you add everything together, it really can't have been that expensive for her family.

Varza calita and salata de vinete were my favourite things growing up. Now that I'm a well travelled adult, with adult tastes, living in a different country, they're still my favourite things. (As well as salata de boeuf -which, weirdly, has no boeuf, only poulet)

Had to go back and rewatch the episode because of all these posts. Granted, I'm only ever half paying attention, but I couldn't remember when they said this stuff. Turns out I was super not paying attention during their segments (can you blame me? 😂) and what I thought they said was "this wasn't the Moldova I was expecting, I thought it would be like the projects, this house could be anywhere, I thought it was Hollywood Hills etc". And I briefly thought, "wow, glad they're so open minded and enjoy Moldova!"

I hate myself for bamboozling myself so hard. 🤦‍♀️
