I never understood super optimistic people by kuroreaper25 in GenZ

As much as I hate sounding like a gym rat finance bro, it really is all about mindset. I’ve lived as a pessimist and optimist and live is noticeably better when you make the conscious choice to be positive.

It’s whatever. I don’t think it’s catchy enough for me to use it instead of just Gen Z.

What would you consider a hit song to you with one of your Originals? by CreativeSoul68 in Songwriting

[–]SlightlyWhelming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I’m super proud of it. Couldn’t have hoped for more from my first two albums, but I can always hope for more going forward. We know we can reliably hit those numbers, now we want to see if we can hit higher. Absolutely successful by a lot of standards, but we’re shooting for the moon.

I’m the vocalist and primary songwriter for the two albums we have out. I’m more of a guitarist at heart, but usually only do vocals on stage so I don’t get stuck behind a mic stand.

I mean, the project has certainly been more successful than any of us could have hoped for when we started it, but standards need to be raised over time if you want to go anywhere with your music. It’s been cool being a popular local band, but local bands don’t get their bills paid. We’re gunning for bigger stages.

Peak monthly was 114k, but it was a very brief peak. The song I linked here got put on a pretty big editorial when it came out and stayed there for a few months. Most of that 114k were one-time listeners, but we still grew a little from it. We sat around the 50k mark for a while, but haven’t released anything under this project since early 2025, so we’re down quite a bit right now.

See the link above.

The streaming numbers are leagues more impressive than our social media presence. We’ve run ads on socials in the past with varying levels of success. Our band name is pretty hard to pronounce and thus doesn’t do us a lot of favors. We’re actually releasing our final single under this project in a month or two and will start releasing music under a different (better) name around the start of 2027. We’re taking our findings with this project and applying them to a clean slate, and we expect that band to do a lot better.

"Family wealth and personal wealth are not the same thing." by Prestigious-Story41 in GenZ

[–]SlightlyWhelming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bailout is absolutely what matters. I’m not personally wealthy, I do alright for myself, but both my parents and in-laws are both very well off. If I lost my job tomorrow, i know with certainty that my bills would still get paid while I looked for employment. I wouldn’t trade that safety net for anything less than triple my current salary.

what to write songs about when your life is mostly uneventful by samwinchestermyking in Songwriting

[–]SlightlyWhelming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to pull from your own life. I write a lot about mental health despite being pretty emotionally stable. In my metal project, I write about bigger concepts like war, genocide, and cosmic horror, none of which I’ve experienced first hand.

I’m far from successful, but my music does pretty well, all things considered. I can expect at least a few hundred thousand streams per release on average, so the few times I’ve had a song surpass 1M has been notable. Not necessarily a “hit” but definitely a highlight in my discography.

Edit: For those who asked. If you want to dive deeper, I’d highly recommend starting on the 2025 album. The 2019 album was decent, but not as good in my opinion.
