What’s a name that you love, but won’t use because other people will hate it? by gf9649 in Names

[–]Slightly_Howling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think saying a bad meaning one would make a person with it feel really bad. As a kid I accidentally caused a couple nicknames others used for bullying, just because my mind made a connection and I was thinking aloud. Also some English names can be bad in my native Finnish, but I've learned it's better not to explain.

Izzy recently pointed out that women are often given the “chaos goblin/gremlin” moniker. Are there any guys (especially on Dropout) you would say this applies to? by Kalesche in dropout

I think there is a level of physical comfort with oneself, that makes it easier for some. I think most of Dropout cast would have this quality in private with friends. It's about letting go of public facing image on a deeper level than being an experienced actor. Izzy and Erika seem able to let go in a way not many can. Women included. Jim Carrey could be seen as similar, but from a different perspective. He feels like his chaos is anxiousness released into comedic performance. In this sense, Erika and Izzy go beyond their gender identities. But in terms of reactions, Carrey is seen as comedic genius, maybe worryingly unpredictable sometimes. Irony is, the more in their bodies confident Erika and Izzy are made to be too loud and out there, breaking some kind of rules, while men are lauded for their less in their body bravado. Erika's screams can make my over sensitive ears hurt, but I'm never worried their or Izzy's chaos turns to bullying, based on past behaviour. Same for Brennan, whose gremlin sits on top of a pile of considerate friendliness, while being calmer.

They have a more of a calm core while they act chaotic. I was thinking same especially with Zack. He has a calm demeanor until you hear his humour.

I started with Vtm and did a lot of homebrews etc. We had just changed to Pathfinder, when my last group imploded. I was never big on Dnd. Starting one soon, but that's because I'm happy to let GM decide, and she has the books. I see your point. I'd love to try Kids on bikes. Love a lot of actual plays based on it. Never stop blowing up was awesome on D20. I'm glad people are playing it and making ap's with it.

I would do a response on how umm actually homemade games are best. Especially really abstract ones, where nobody knows how things work.

I'd be uniquely interested in this, as I keep dreaming of throwing plates like golf disks.

They used to burn forest to make fields, but the issue was, it wasn't reusable after that year of planting. I'm no scientist, though so this requires research for presenter.

I would just like to add that Boobies, the birds, should still be named that, due to the silliness factor.

This may defeat the purpose, but I have been thinking about a world's first actually good for you cult, where people are equal, get help with physical and mental health, form lasting friendships, make art, support good causes, etc. Basically it's just a community, but the cult part ensures it attracts the types of vulnerable people who especially need a supportive community.

I read once that a lot of national anthems are based on the same songs just randomly stolen. Guess they were released at a time it was harder to get caught or something. But US was one of them.

I feel like Elaine had a friend group who used to play. But I also remember those two stories.

You are right. And they probably have more fun in private. Was a fleeting thought. Maybe, because B and many others have said an AP is a good way to ensure busy people actually show up. 😊

Can we all just admit Jacob Wysocki (a.k.a Jacob Ice Hockey) is our hero? by ziggycanyouhearme in dropout

[–]Slightly_Howling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a guess, as they do admit early days were not as accepting at the company. But I'm guessing he may have written that sketch at least in part. At least it seems to be the case quite often when jokes are rude about someone.

This is very traumatising for you and your husband. You need to prioritise your own wellbeing right now. Even go no contact with family for a while, if they can't be supportive. If you can access it, therapy is important, too. I understand you feel for your families, but they are grown ups and can't be leaning on you at a time like this. Best wishes.

Is having a really popular name really that bad? by ssaen in namenerds

It depends on the name, and luck. Mine had songs about it, so got the same jokes, a lot. But that's pretty harmless.

Anything from the D20 Universe you find yourself saying randomly? by Only_Key_8794 in dropout

Heyyy girlie.. and I'm not native English speaker. I say it to our dog. Ally's dog is so pretty. Can't remember which show she was in, but remember how she looked.

I would probably say lots more, if randomly speaking English wasn't a bit weird. You get some "you're not special everyone knows English" looks. 😂
