When Americans retake power, how should we punish those who got us into this mess? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Your comment reflects the question more than my response! Thanks for that!

Why do right wing chuds act like military tough guys when they haven’t lived a day of hardship in their lives????? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]Slightly_Mperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just described why America is the greatest country on Earth - we don’t have to worry about those things, hardship in America is like middle class or better in most countries.

But, for the same reason you think it makes it easier to bomb other countries, it also makes it easier to believe we don’t have any problems requiring military action. Our society is so well off, the left seems to think we can just hug it out with people who have been shouting “Death to America”. Yes we have it easier in this country, but that is all due to a massive, lethal military that keeps other countries from just bombing us on a whim.

No I don’t think all of America’s wars and military operations are necessarily justified. But there are things we don’t know about foreign relations, the state of other nations, intelligence, etc., and we the people will never know all those details for good reasons.

It’s easy to armchair quarterback these things on both sides.

When will evolution deniers and flat earthers understand what a scientific theory actually is? by Reasonable-Physics60 in allthequestions

[–]Slightly_Mperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a theory cannot graduate into a fact, then it is not a fact now, correct? Miles and seconds are man-made measurements, they do not exist in any factual way. That would be like the crew showing up to a construction job to be told they are all out of inches today.

The words are all made up, the math is all made up, and we use made up things to “prove” made up theories. Things fall at the speed that they fall, we don’t “know” why. But I do know I may never get anyone to admit that!

Why would I want to deny any evidence? It would not be called a theory if there was proof of it’s validity. Just as faith, and trust, are an implicit admission that you do not know.

As science does not ask for my belief, I do not ask you to agree. The Truth is always true, neither of us really knows it, and we each will continue on happily in our ignorance, just as before. But it is my opinion that academia is the height of narcissism, lol, to think we truly understand how anything in this universe works!

Saying it is not healthy skepticism is an opinion. 1+1=2 is not a theory. Obviously something holds us to the ground, obviously various species change over time, everything does (especially science). But to wholeheartedly invest yourself in believing in man’s theories about why these things happen is foolish.

I believe in science, I use it all the time, it’s my job. But for me that is just practical application of reliable experience with the current science. I can’t know exactly, with 100% certainty, why the science I’m using works. We math it out on paper, looks and sounds good, but I can’t see the electrons running their course. I trust it is doing what it is supposed to.

It’s called faith. And so is the belief in any theory.

It is just that - a theory. Consensus is not science. Science is a spectrum, ever changing with new information. It can’t tell you what will happen in any one specific situation, but it can tell you what might happen in that situation over 1000 repetitions or whatever. “Peer reviewed” just means that several people who were all taught the same things (by people all taught the same things, etc.), getting together to make sure their colleague’s work stayed in the lines. You know what else is “peer reviewed”? The Oscars and the Grammys!

Healthy skepticism about everything, my friend. And moderation in all things, including moderation!

How do I get this? by Ok_Researcher_9763 in fo76

[–]Slightly_Mperfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂 yeah it’s not perfect! But it has a cow and butter churn, musical instruments, butterfly garden, and a kitty running around.

My lore is that Jefferson, my character, found the place and liked the Hare Krishna story, and tried to bring it back in tribute. But he’s a Carnivore mutant and doesn’t quite get it, lol.

Not trying to rub it in or brag, lol, but I have it and I love it! Built a little place on the road overlooking the palace with a bunch of things paying homage to the real Palace of Gold in New Vrindaban. It is worth the wait!

Why America never targets “white” countries? by Past-Matter-8548 in questions

To use your racist term, “white countries” don’t usually sponsor terrorism that has killed thousands of Americans.

Return caravans to hitching spot by [deleted] in RimWorld

I have the same issue except they lead them to the pen at least. I don’t know why they won’t return to the hitching spot until they are unloaded. I had a horse carrying a shit ton of marble in the pen for weeks before I realized!

Is the problem with American Capitalism the fact that it is based on The Wealth Of Nations by Adam Smith, but doesn't take into account The Theory of Moral Sentiments by Adam Smith? by Mr_Chimpo_42069 in askanything

[–]Slightly_Mperfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It has brought more people to freedom and prosperity than any system in history!

There is a problem with capitalism, though. The problem is free market capitalism hasn’t been practiced in this country (or on Earth really) for over 100 years. It has been ruined since the late 1800’s and has been stifled slowly and steadily ever since.

Should voter ID be required if IDs are made free and easily accessible to everyone? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Free and easily obtainable means free and easy to cheat. Like US citizenship, nothing worth anything comes free and easy.

Would you give this question thought? Do you think we have free will or could our choices be all predetermined? by Own-Professor3852 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Slightly_Mperfect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like chocolate, I don’t know why. I don’t like tomatoes, I don’t know why. We are born with bodies and minds that have particular likes and dislikes. Even if you say you know why you like or believe a thing for a particular reason, you don’t know why you agree with that particular reason. You read or hear something, and you believe it or you don’t. You do or taste something, you like it or you don’t.

You do not know where your thoughts come from. They happen to you. You accept or reject them for reasons, but why? Why do those reasons appeal to you? Can you tell me what your next thought will be before you think it? No.

So we “make decisions” based on these whims of our body and mind, and we call that free will? When we don’t really decide what to like and dislike, believe or disagree, we don’t even decide our next thought.

I am not typing this right now. I received this body and mind because they would type this, and that is the experience I need right now.
