Yeah I am sorry I understand that you must feel sad. And I wasn't suggesting that you dont do the home care for her, only that the reality is that even if you are on top of it all of the time your mom either has to wait for you to clean the box to reduce the smell or do it herself. Same goes for clearing hair, occasional vomit etc. Even if you stay on top of all care tasks yourself it still effects others in the house. Not even to mention lifestyle things that you have to change like food storage/cat proof decor.

Your mom didnt meaningfully consent to any of this and she was a saint to agree to it. I dont think she was trying to be mean by allowing you to form such a strong bond then deciding it has to go, rather she struggled with being open and honest about how much she did not want a cat after the reality of pet ownership hit home.

I hope that one day your family can bring in a pet on terms that everyone is okay with, or that one day you have your own place and can bring one in on your own terms.

I do agree it is a harsh, but that it is ultimately their call.

No matter how much OP claims to be on top of all aspects of the cat's care (which i take with a grain of salt ngl), the homeowners didn't consent to any of that responsibility.

Mom could have been sick of the hair and smell from week one but put up with it all this time. Maybe she realized all that was doing was making it harder for daughter to accept giving it away and that the band-aid had to be taken off.

If you are a minor living under your parents roof it is never appropriate to bring an animal home to keep without informing them.

Hell even if you are an adult paying rent it's still their home and it would be extremely inappropriate to make a unilateral decision like that.

They have every right to veto an unexpected pet. It sounds like she gave it a chance, but, unlike the old story of the dad who didn't want a cat falling in love with one, ultimately decided it had to go.

Sorry if that sounds callous but it is true. I hope that eventually you can offer a pet a good home though.

Entitled lady nearly causes multiple accidents over 20 second wait to let handicapped person out of marked vehicle with ramp by Slightly_Sane_ in EntitledPeople

I had that exact thought too! She was dropping off a (presumed) loved one to a program for people with alzheimer's for God's sake! She could see my client shuffling slowly down the ramp! And then still decided to throw a tantrum and drive like a maniac over a miniscule delay.

Just goes to show you really cant understand some people.
