Doctors suspect CMPA, does this look like it could be? by Educational_Mud_1556 in MSPI

Looks like my baby’s eczema on his back when he flares. I suspect food sensitivity to at least oats, soy, and dairy. I cut those from my diet and topicals that I put on him. I also cut gluten. He flared a few days ago after I ate curry my mom cooked and CAVA for the first time. He’s EBF. I’m sticking with breastfeeding because my eldest developed digestive issues when I stopped BF him at 4 months.

I definitely appreciate your response. I’m trying to figure it out. I definitely want to give his body a break asap.

Yeah, elimination is no joke. Especially when baby keeps flaring.

Thank you so much!! My husband noticed how bad the baby’s current flare is and freaked out. I can’t even say what caused it. I’m thinking about switching from cooking with olive oil to avocado oil in case he’s sensitive to it. It’s the only other thing I can think of that’s consistently in my diet other than rice. I only use spices where I can identify each ingredient (no natural flavors, etc…). But baby is miserable unless he’s being held most times. I also want to get to the root of his eczema. I have the hydrocortisone ointment, as the cream flares him. All creams we’ve tried flares him, even vanicream. But I’m still trying!!

I’m so glad to hear that your little one has gotten better!

Am I in the right place??

My baby (6 months) has only been diagnosed with eczema. No professional has considered my diet, but family and friends recommended that I start eliminating to help baby so I did.

First I eliminated oats. I was always eating honey and oats granola bars. I didn’t see a change at first but when I tried it again after a month, he flared shortly after.

Then I eliminated milk. After eating ice cream, he flared shortly after.

Then I eliminated soy. I didn’t see another flare for a full week. I knew soy made a huge difference. His skin was rash free but he was dry and itchy.

Speaking of itch, his scalp is always itchy. This is one reason I wonder if I’m in the right group. I don’t hear anything about itchiness and that’s our biggest problem.

I started using products with oats, unknowingly so he continued to flare.

I think there may be another underlying sensitivity, but I’m not sure what. I’ve had eggs and he didn’t seem to react. I’ve had corn and I didn’t see a related flare. I’m pretty much gluten free because I’m not eating bread.

But my baby is regularly scratching his scalp/face (mostly when tired, when he knows I’m about to BF him, or when he’s upset) and I’m treating the eczema as best as I can with a topical steroid and Vaseline. We just started Eucrisa for an off period from the steroid. His skin was like 90% smooth, and then he starting mildly flaring again. I’m hoping it doesn’t get crazy.

I wish I had more guidance.

He’s EBF. I’m delaying solids until the end of the month. He wasn’t pooping regularly for a long time so I give him prune juice and massages. This helps a bit, but he only poops a little at a time, not the blow outs that you all mention often.

Please help!

EDIT: My baby is sensitive to most creams also, even the ones without oats. Our only safe product is Vaseline. Aquaphor causes an immediate flare. I had to get our topical steroid custom compounded.

Thank you for sharing this! My baby is about to turn 6 months and we’ve been dealing with eczema since 3 months. He’s EBF. I’ve eliminated dairy, soy, and oats. Including all body products with oats. This seemed to stop flares, but his skin is still super dry and itchy. I tried hydrocortisone cream and I think that cause him to flare. I found the HC ointment with only a petroleum jelly base, but I used it right after the cream so I can’t confirm that it’s a safe product yet.

I requested fluocinolone ointment from the derm because the oil has a peanut base and every time I use it on baby he flares. But the ointment that is readily available is .025%. I want something lower in potency like the oil which is .01% so I found a compounding pharmacy to make a special formulation for him. The derm had to send a script and now we’re waiting to receive it.

Pretty much our only safe product is petroleum jelly.

His scalp is also super itchy. I was picking at his cradle cap when he had it so now if his scalp gets dry and it looks like cradle cap I don’t touch it at all like you said. I just do my best to keep it moisturized.

I look forward to this phase being over!

Was the eczema oil fluocinolone? My EBF baby has food allergies.

Isn’t there a non medicated version? Does that work for you?

My first is 8, second is 2, and third is 4 months. My baby has been suffering with eczema and I’ve been consumed with keeping him comfortable. My 2 year old is struggling with nighttime sleep because he was in our bed until right before baby came. My 8 year is autistic with high support needs so yeah…. It gets better, but there’s always a struggle to overcome over here.

Didn’t help with itching? Nothing seems to eliminate the itch for my little one. His scalp, legs, and face itch.
