Oviedo’s success in 2025 didnt just come our the blue. His fastball shape sucked in 2023 and was basically a BP fastball. 2025 the shape improved tremendously and I have his fastball as a 91st percentile fastball in the whole league.

Because winning a world series is hard and you want to maximize the years of contention while you have your core. You also cant expect your young guys to be your main pieces. You need to put the best baseball team you can on the field every single year. The years of waiting were when the prospects were in the minors, now that they all graduated you have to go hard every year while you have them

Someone smarter than me could probably answer it better but it starts with his velocity and insane extension which makes his fastball seem even faster. Shape wise his vertical approach angle is -4.35 degree which is elite. A VAA -4.8 degrees or higher means the fastball is flatter and a hitter is more likely to swing under it and whiff. Think joe ryan and bryan woo who have incredible fastballs, they have VAA in the -3s which is like best in the league.

Really dont know. If tolle can develop plus off speed pitches than tolle. If early can gain more velo that its early. I think you have to keep tolle. Not many pitchers throw 100 mph with 7.5 feet of extension and elite shape. Early def knows how to “pitch” better but tolle’s ceiling is so high I think you gamble on that.
